D-Day, behind the curtains
This is a drama, not an action film. You could call it a war-room drama. Tom Selleck captures you from the opening moments of the film and holds you, just a super job. The filming is absolutely gorgeous and inspired. There is something about the color and lighting that is unusual and captivating, and the detailing is impressive. All of this created a dramatic feel and mood that drew me into this place and time. I was so drawn in that I wanted it to be twice as long, I didn't want it to end. But although short, it still tells this particular story and emphasis very effectively. And the major emphasis, based on historical records, is one I was unfamiliar with. And it is moving. Highly recommended.

Excellent biopic of a Great American hero
I wasn't expecting much from this television movie. I knew it was relatively low budget and I couldn't quite see Tom Selleck in the role of Eisenhower. Boy was I surprised. Selleck did a great job of portraying Ike and the screenplay was tight and accurate.
Like all D-

movies, Ike--

focused on the momentous decisions that whirled around the invasion. Astute political leadership was more important to the eventual success of the invasion. If anything, the movie underplayed the politics of getting this multi-national force to work together for a coordinated assault. From above and below, Ike had to assuage huge egos and keep everybody supporting a plan fraught with monstrous risk for the world of the day and posterity.
If you'd like to learn more about Eisenhower, I recommend his memoir Crusade in Europe and Stephen Ambrose's Eisenhower: Soldier and President (The Renowned One-Volume Life). (Selleck read both these books in preparation for the role.)

Great movie - great acting by Tom Selleck
I hadn't thought much of Tom Selleck's acting until I saw this movie. I'm happy I got it for our WWII collection.

Great Acting
This I think is one of the best pieces of acting Tom Selleck has ever done. He has Ike's mannerisms down. After seeing years of Magnum this piece makes his skills shine as an actor. I also enjoy some of his western type roles.
Tom as Ike
As a history piece, I enjoyed it. I feel that Tom did an excellent job of the movie.
