Works well in the East Bay

There's so many in-depth reviews here, I'll just do a pro and con listing:
PROS:
-Great reception in the East Bay (near Lake Merritt) even though there's lots of building shadows. I can get most all of the local SD and HD stations; I also get KQED and lots of other PBS stations from San Jose and the peninsula.
-Easy set up
-Reasonably priced
-Works well with DTV converter box

CONS:
-VERY top-heavy and tippy, so watch where you put it!
-Looks (this could be a PRO for some) I like the modern looks OK, but it's pretty big in my little apartment living room!

Overall, 4 to 4 and-a-half stars.

excellent performance

This antenna provides superior picture quality for over-the-air HD stations. I haven't even bothered to use the rabbit ears since there are so many stations now broadcasting in HD.

Not necessary

My only concern is people seem to believe they need a special antenna for receiving HDTV. Antennas are passive resonators. Typically, the larger the better. If you're in an urban setting, a directional antenna such at this Turk is preferable to reduce ghosting. However, in reality, there is no technological change between a HDTV antenna and an Analog antenna.

With coax cable screwed into the back of your TV, hold the wire of the other end with your fingertips, and point your arm in different directions and notice the changes in your TV reception.

I bet you didn't know your own body was HDTV digital signal ready did you? That's because these antennas are mostly marketing scams.

Excellent Digital Choice

I have lived for years with two rabbit ear antenna connected to an amplifier and have been rewarded with 2 channels of barely watchable analog quality. Using that antenna setup with a digital converter Zenith 901, I received 9 digital channels with good strength. During a baseball game, the signal was lost a few times, so I nervously ordered this antenna. I now receive 10 digital channels at very good strength and 2 stations at good strength, and the ugly outstretched rabbit ears are gone.

Great Antenna

Great antenna. Easy to set up. I immediately received more stations than with my venerable older Radio Shack antenna. Most importantly, the digital PBS stations in my local area suddenly came in with a solid signal instead of constantly dropping out.
The only two things I would like to see changed is, 1. The base of the antenna is too small. I have not had any issues with the antenna tipping over but I would like to see the base larger anyhow. 2. The switch for the power boost is in an awkward spot; on the fixed cable that comes from the antenna and runs to the T.V. I would like to see the switch on the antenna itself.
I don't know if this will matter to anyone but I will throw it in anyway, this antenna is attached to a Samsung HDTV.
One more thing, Amazon was the least expensive retailer I could find for this antenna. Other stores wanted up to $75 for this model.

Have you just bought a widescreen HDTV compatible TV? There are a few options on how to get any or good HDTV reception. Cable-TV and Satellite might be the best but the monthly rates are over $40 each month. HDTV is also available free over broadcast airwaves. This is an indoor antenna that's designed to capture HDTV from normal VHF and UHF TV tuner frequencies. Provides access to no-cost HD programming Excellent for urban environments where space is at a premium and outdoor antenna installation isn't possible Appealing design with small footprint Anyone can install HDTVa in minutes
