Make: Makes My Day!

I first found out about Make Magazine while searching for information about robotics online. I came accross complete instructions on building a light-chasing robot out of an old computer mouse on the Make magazine web site--and was immediately hooked.

The pages of these magazines are filled with fascinating projects that use items you can find around the house, at garage sales, or online. The most recent issue I received had a collection of cool spy gadgets to build, from a pressure switch alarm made with a clothes-pin, to a laser communicator that allows you to send your voice over the beam from a laser pointer.

Make: Magazine has articles on projects that other "Makers" have developed, such as a hovercraft chair; and on interesting things that people do, such as the article on the man who collects "Magic Lanterns" from the 1800s. I even find myself looking through the advertising pages--something I never do with other magazines--because the advertisements are for such cool stuff (rare earth magnets, science kits, robot controllers, etc...)!

This is a magazine that anyone who loves to tinker will absolutely love.

Gizmo Lovers' Paradise

I've been getting Make since the beginning. I still remember the excitement when I got my first issue and how I poured over its contents, looking for something neat to make. That feeling of anticipation has not abated over time for I just got my new issue and I sprang into action to see what delicious, unique and weird thing I could put together. You have to be somewhat handy and not intimidated by simple electronics (though some are far more complex than I can handle presently). If you like to experiment and dream up unique combinations of tools, electronics and mechanics, this is a publication you will savor and keep. Don't let anyone "borrow" your copy, for that will be the last you will see of it. Rejoice fellow gizmo lovers. You have finally got your reward.

I have been a subscriber since their first issue and love this magazine and their website. It's a quarterly magazine, so you'll have enough time to finish a few projects before the next issue arrives.

I can't give it enough justice in this review. Visit their website [...] (or google for Make magazine). It gives a sample of what you'll find in the magazine and links to hundreds of other websites with amazing and fun projects to build. Or download one of their free weekly video podcast that includes a pdf for the project. The projects come straight from the magazine and it shows you how to make them.

Thanks to the magazine I made a small LED flashlight that runs on old batteries, a marshmallow gun made with PVC, and a little robot that runs on solar energy. My next projects will be a wind power generator, a 20W solar panel, and my own biodiesel. OK, I'm still undecided if I'll try making the biodiesel.

I LOVE this magazine!!!!

Tinkerers MUST buy! This magazine has some of the best projects around. The magazine discusses new technology, DIY and backyard builders. Also features interviews with makers of all sorts! One of the other added benefits of this magazine is how they typically represent the genders inclusively. You see women doing just as much as the guys. This is a stark difference from Popular Science and Popular Mechanics which tends to feature exclusively men.

Someone got it for me. I got it for someone else.

This magazine is amazing. It's one half manual on how to make things and one half source of inspiration to make things.
