Steppers will love this!

The Freestyle Pacer Pro pedometer is great! It is small, lightweight and has a cover so that buttons are not accidentally pressed. The display is easy to read. It has several functions but I only use it for counting steps. I have tried others, but came back to this one.

My second Freestyle

This is the second Freestyle that I have owned. My first served me well for many years. I have tried a number of other brands that were more stylish but not as accurate or compact. I like the new addition of the safety leash since I had made my own for my previous Freestyle. I did have a problem opening the clasp on the front cover and broke a fingernail in my attempt. That was fixed by shaving a tiny bit of the plastic from the clasp. Now it opens and closes perfectly.

Super Step Counter

This super little step counter proved very easy to set up, and it provides the information desired with virtually no effort. It is extremely easy to use, view and reset. The only downside is the safety catch is difficult to release, so I do not close it to the full stop position. With that one relatively minor exceptions I am well pleased with this product, and would definitely purchase it again.

Pedometer science

This is my first pedometer and the only reason I bought it was to calibrate my treadmill. This may not be a realistic reason as an afterthought. However, I have an old Smooth treadmill. I am pretty sure that its speed indicator is not accurate which makes everything else inaccurate. So, I looked for a pedometer that could measure average speed. When I got the pedometer, I read the instructions carefully. I cleared some space in my small house first thing next morning. I ran 12 paces and measured the distance with a retractable metal measure and divided it by 12. I entered my average pace which was 2.03 ft and then my weight into the pedometer and set my treadmill speed at 5.6 as I usually do. My distance and speed as reported by the pedometer seemed wrong to me. But, I knew that the distance and speed reported by the treadmill were also wrong. I am an engineer by training and I could not leave things at this uncertain state. So, I got into my car and measured the distance I normally run outside which was precisely 4.1 miles. Next morning, I got outside and ran the distance (which is quite a feat in July as I live in South Florida). The pedometer said I had ran 6519 steps. But the distance and the speed was definitely wrong. I knew this because I new the distance and I knew the duration (which pedometer had also recorded very accurately). I assumed that the pedometer had recorded the number of steps accurately. I am guessing this as the number of steps closely correlated with the number of steps I ran on the treadmill. So, I took the total number of distance I ran which was 4.1 miles. I converted it to feet and divided it by 6519. This way I discovered that my pace was 3.32 feet, not 2.03 as I had measured indoors.

The only question I have at this point is the following:
How can a 5'5" tall man like me have a pace length of 3.33 feet? I don't have very long legs. If I am running really fast, maybe I can have 28 inches and by a stretch of imagination 29 inches. But, 3ft and 4/12 inches? This doesn't seem right. But, when I took this pace and applied it to the run I did on my treadmill, I got both distance (and speed) numbers that seemed accurate and more similar to the numbers I get on very expensive treadmills (like Lifestyle).

So, I still do not know how to interpret these results. But, I was able to calculate the "real" speed of my treadmill by using some simple ratios using the data I obtained from the pedometer. If anyone has any ideas what I am doing wrong, you can contact me at vehbi.tasar@gmail.com.

Excellent pedometer!!!

I have been using my Pacer Pro for years. Unfortunately, I lost it and will be replacing it with another Pacer Pro. Small in size but big on perfomance!! Will definitely buy again!!
