Great, easy to use, no brainer

If you are like me and want to watch movies from around the world. This is a product you want to consider. It works great, I have watched movies from France, China, UK, Greece, and many more.

It is easy to use and can play many formats.

No brainer.

Too Big and the Disc Drawer is Very Flimsy, but Works Flawlessly

I've had this about six months and so far it's handled everything I've thrown at it - mostly region 2 and 3 DVDs in addition to region 1.

The only negatives are that the unit itself is quite large and could stand to be pared down significantly in size, and the disc drawer is incredibly flimsy. The drawer is such a cheap and poorly-engineered grade of plastic that it almost fails to support its own weight - when extended it actually sags a little to the left. It's incredible that that kind of structural flaw was given a pass in the design process, but there it is. As long as you're prepared for that oddity and handle it with extreme delicacy it will work fine for you.

Another complaint I've seen relates to that insanely bright blue neon-looking bar at the top of the disc drawer - but that can be dimmed and/or turned completely off with the remote's dimmer button. Unfortunately the digital display dims and turns off with the blue light, so if you need runtime details you have to either cover the blue thing with a dark sock or something, or just grin & bear it.

Otherwise it's a great region-free player at a decent price. Hopefully this model's discontinuation means that a new model will be released with these flaws fixed?

I've tried it all...and it works! I tried CDs from China... burned CDs... stuff that other people have had problems with...this player worked. Though... I did have some problems with some AVI that I tried to play...must have been the codec I was using to make the AVI. But still, I'm going to give this 5 out of 5 stars.

Discontinued?

The item itself is outstanding. It enables the library to play media from around the world without a problem. However, when I ordered a second player, I got a message that the factory has unexpectedly discontinued the item without replacement. Too bad, I would have thought there would have been more of a demand for these.

Cool features, decent performance.

I really love how this DVD player is capable of playing AVI files burned onto a DVD-R or CD-R. I also love the photo slideshow capability. As my wife is from Germany, the region-free function is great. But I've noticed some quirky behavior that is a little annoying. When watching a DVD, even a store-bought one, it seems that the player flakes out when a scene changes in a movie or show. I don't know if it's a problem with chapters, or if the abrupt change in video signal causes it to hang for a second, or something else entirely. Otherwise, it's a nice machine that can do some amazing things.
