People aren't just being picky!

Overall, very pleased with these speakers. Great price, great looks.

I was taken by suprise by the sound quality. I had read a number of reviews, many discussing how flat the mid-range is on these speakers. I assumed that there were some folks with very good ears who were being picky about this lower cost set of speakers. I am nothing close to an audiophile, but within the first few seconds, I knew exactly what everyone meant. The mid-range on these speakers is amazingly flat/absent. The sound quality from my cheaper, 10 year old Altec Lansings was far better. Even with a lot of equalizer tuning, it still doesn't sounds quite right.

Take all the reviews seriously...the mid-range on these speakers is truly awful. If you're picky about your music, look elsewhere. If you want some good looking computer speakers, these'll work just fine.

Best Sound for the Price

I shopped around for a while searching for a simple 2.1 setup that could pack a little punch without distorting. These Z-4's are the best I've found, hands down, within this price range. The subwoofer is definitely the highlight of this system -- it's quite responsive and has an incredibly warm and rich sound. The low end could easily compete against subs/systems that are double the price.

The mids are reasonable, as good as can be expected with small satellites, but you can easily boost the midrange frequencies with your music player's built-in EQ.

The clean high end makes up for a lot of what the mids have trouble with. With a little bit of EQ adjustment, you can get these speakers to sound as clear as some of the $2-300 speakers that are out there, albeit, not at very high volumes.

All-around, this is a very clean-sounding speaker system with beautiful, full low end. Very happy and impressed with the sound quality especially considering the low price. If you're looking for a budget 2.1 setup that doesn't wimp out on any low end or clarity, this is it.

Very good

Nice balance of highs and mids...not as much bass as I would have liked, but it's fine when I turn up the bass control to max. Love the fact that it has a headphone jack and an input jack. I also really like the (wired) remote control with the big dial for volume control. Blue ambient light turned out to be a perfect match for my HP laptop which has the same blue ambient lighting! Worth the price.

Great speakers to inhance TV

I bought these speakers to add to my Samsung 57" TV which has very poor speakers. Also you cannot get Closed Caption on this set in the HD hookup ( I wish I knew this before I bought the set)
Anyway, it was an easy set up, just needed to buy an additonal cable to hook up to the two rca jacks on the back on the TV and also an extention cable for the left speaker which was too far from the subwoofer to reach with the cable provided with the speaker.
I found that they work best is you removed the stands from the speakers and laid the speaker on their sides ontop of the tv. Don't know why, but they just sounded so much better.

These speakers really helped the sound when watching movies on the tv.(even the British movies)
