I've been a vegetarian all of my life - BigFranks are great tasting! My husband is not a vegetarian and he loves Big Franks also! They do great over the fire and my kids love "hotdog sandwich spread". You mash the franks or use a food processor. Mix with mayonaise and dill pickle relish. Tastes really good!
Okay...but Smart Dogs are better
As another reviewer states, there is a bit of an unexpected beany taste to these that are not "true to form". I found that I preferred LightLife Smart Dogs, which taste more like a real hot dog. Those are available in the refrigerated section of many grocery stores. These are still perfectly edible, but they just don't wow me. The plus is that it comes in a can and can be stored for awhile.
I've been eating these for decades. Unfortunately, they got way overpriced in-store (7.50!) but then I found them on amazon (yeah amazon!) for a good price, and free shipping, no less. I love these and they're a great way to get my four year old to eat well. He's a vegetarian who's frightened of vegetables. Thank you, LomaLinda. And, thanks for keeping the eggs out so I can continue enjoying them.
BigFranks are a great replacement for meat products. They can be used in any recipe calling for hot dogs: traditional in-bun, sauteed with onions and potatoes, or in casseroles such as a German-style potato/onion/cream sauce mixture. They can also be used in deep-fried corn dogs. They have a great flavor and texture and I have used them for 40 years.
best veggie dog out there....we make chili dogs with them using veggie sausage in the chili, rounded out with onion rings! most excellent! i've been eating them for 23 years.
too bad you can't still get the fish, tuno, or wham easily because they were great too!
