Working fine out of the box

Working fine, using drivers from WinXP. Easy install, though did click "Update Driver" in Device Manager to be sure I had "USB 2.0" driver. Was concerned about clearance out the back, but it fit--just barely--in my hp pavilion 9900 and USB cables can insert fully. Running USB disk at high speed with no problems. (I have no firewire peripheral yet, so that's still untested.) Had hoped the (undocumented) on-card USB header could be used for my front USB ports, but my old 10-1 ribbon cable connector doesn't match. Chips: VIA Vectro VT6214L and VIA Fire VT6306. Shipping was as described, about a week.

Solid product. No problems.

No problems with this product (but one small caveat below). I installed it on my XP MC machine, fired it up, and the system recognized the card and did all the work. All the ports work. This is an easy upgrade if you need more USB or FireWire ports for one of today's shorter motherboards.

The full port list, as far as I can tell is:

4 external USB 2.0 ports
1 internal USB 2.0 port
1 internal 5-pin USB connector

2 external FireWire ports
1 internal FireWire port
1 internal 5-pin FireWire connector (or however many pins there are supposed to be - see below)

The internal ports include both jacks for plugging in standard cables, and pin connectors for adding on peripherals like an internal card reader. The only reason I didn't give this card 5 stars is that they don't actually tell you this, nor do they label the pins well on the board for the FireWire. I'm reasonably computer-literate, but I'm a little more hesitant in playing with hardware. I'd like better documentation on the internal arrangement on the card.

Works fine with driver update

I got this for a computer that was several years old and did not have USB 2. This installed easy and seemed to work ok but then I found that the dialup internet access was not working properly. I checked the the USB drivers (from Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager) and found a couple that needed to be updated. When these were updated everything worked fine. It is just what we needed. We were interested in the USB ports and have not used the firewire ports.

Price is Right?

I purchased this product because of the very low price and it even included the cable I needed to hookup to my Sony Video Camera. Little did I know that the cable would not work, no matter how much fiddling with it, just did not want to work. I picked up another cable and it worked just fine. Also, one of the Firewire ports did not work, had to use the other one. Normally, this would probably be a ONE STAR review, but, I got what I paid for, the USB ports seem to be working just fine and I did have one other firewire port that DID WORK, so I really can't complain, still a very good deal for the money. I guess there might be some of these that work just fine, that would be a GREAT deal, but, not mine, just a good deal. I didn't pursue getting a replacement because I got what I needed with this and just don't need that many USB/FireWire ports anyhow. Not a big deal actually, at least not for me.
