The Incredibly versatile and fully loaded notebook you can afford
There is nothing wrong with
Acer
. It might not be a brand name that is house hold, but it certainly has been the biggest unknown mover in the notebook market that has taken it by storm by simply making high-end notebooks affordable, and when we say affordable we mean that is shaves 1/3 of the price tag for a similar spec model with a brand name. Although brand names where important, say in the later parts of the twentieth century and the start of the twenty first you should know that even Apple have their
hard
ware built in the Far East. All the big brands are doing it. There are companies abroad simply pumping out Apple hardware on one end with the company next door with the same trained workforce and equipment pumping out IBM hardware. A clone company opens up next door and starts putting out the same stuff under another name. Nowadays the same stuff literally means the same stuff. The difference between clones and known brands are zilch, not a thing. Nobody has the lead anymore. Your odds of buying bunk equipment are the same across the board provided that you are at least going with something that has been established for a few years. Acer is one such established line. Personally I would go with an Acer Aspire over the TravelMate because the Aspire has a flat keyboard while the TravelMate is curved. There is not much of a difference except in the shape and few other differences in specs. Just view both to see which kind you want. The Aspire is nicer if you ask me. Look at the specs on the 5000s series of Acer Aspire products. Product Features 1.66GHz
Intel
Core

Processor
T2300
is like a P4 3.0GHz chip. Core Duo is fast. I would not bother with the 64-bit AMD chip and go with 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo or better because it is a speedy Intel chip... surprisingly fast actually. 1GB DDR2 533 SD
RAM
is fat load of ram for a notebook. The 100GB SATA hard
drive
comes formatted into two partitions. That is a load of space. 15.4 WXGA TFT display is a nice sized display. I was really pushing for the 17" or even 19" screen sizes for work, but then I saw the 15.4 display and it is big enough and keeps the notebook mobile so that you can carry it around. If the screen gets bigger the notebook gets bigger and starts to impact on its portable qualities. Now check this out, ATI MOBILITY Radeon X1400 graphics card, 128MB DDR that is Windows Vista ready. WOW! And you get upgrades of 256MB or 512MB. I have played games on my notebook like Civilization IV without any major drop in fps. Although notebooks are not designed for games, the Acer Aspire doesn't seem to care or find any reason why it can't play the latest hardware demanding games with ease. It has all the ports you could want and 4 USB! The weight is 10 lbs. When you first get it and start it up it takes about 1 hour and a half to install and setup, which it does automatically. At the end have a DVD-R disc ready to burn a backup of your install which it asks for. I also have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router. I took the notebook outside and down the end of the garden approximately 35 feet (10 meters) to a 2 foot concrete house wall and window where there is a room 12 feet (4 meters) to a door, panel walls, and another 12 feet (4 meters) to the router. During the day, depending on weather conditions, my signal will read very strong to low, but never gone. It is my understanding however that this router can not penetrate all types of barriers like lead or metal walls. So unless you have this router is inside a vault, you are going to pretty much not just be serving your internet all around your home, but to other homes also and probably places where you didn't think you would be serving at all. Anyway, the notebook works with internet in my garden and that is really why I wanted this. The fact I can play Civilization IV outside is amazing. Update the Wireless NIC if you want to use WPA2 wireless security. The online capabilities are amazing. Personally I wouldn't buy a notebook without ordering some form of a lightweight bag to carry it around in. Make sure the specs of the bag and greater than this notebook and not the same as, or less than, because it tends to be a tight squeeze. I have seen this Acer in a show room with other top named notebooks and they all have the same screen quality. You simply won't find anything out there which has a different display quality. The screen is a little stiff when opening, but that just makes it more robust. Make sure to hold the base down when opening and never open with the hand on the side of the screen. Use the middle of the screen slightly to the left or right of the web cam. Like I said, all this stuff is being built by the same people. The only serious drawback are the speakers. To be honest they are no better than the default internal speak of a common intel mobo which makes it poor. Voice recorded audio is poor also. However the headphones with microphone jack is where it is at. Once last thing... the heat vent, is located near the top right hand side so if you use an external USB right-hand mouse you can not locate it right up against the laptop as the vent air can cause a little heat discomfort on your hand. You must create some space between the mouse and the notebook. The bottom line is that there is absolutely no need to pay through-the-roof prices unless you just want the brand name. It doesn't guarantee you anything any more other than a look. Acer looks great, runs great and is great. AMAZING!

Best Deal
The dual processor is the best computer invention in a long time. This computer is much more stable than any with a single processor. This computer is just like the Dell Inspiron and also at a great price.
Worth to pay
This is great Notebook to have. It comes true to all my expectations.

Good Laptops
I do not have this model, but I recently purchased the
Acer
4220 and am very pleased with it. The
duo
core
is a really nice feature along with the other pros of Acer. This is the first Acer brand computer I have owned and I really like the design. The battery is good for 3 + hours which is also a nice plus. I will update as time goes on. Take care!
