Works with the right car

VR3 works well with certain cars and their radio/antenna system and works horrible on others. My friend's 2003 Honda Accord Coupe worked well for him. I had it in a Honda 2001 4DR Sedan and the sound quality was average. If you're using it for audio books, they are fine, but not for high quality music. It'll sound like semi-radio station quality. Test it out. It's a good and cheap solution for playing mp3s on some cars if it works!

It does its job.

A great product, especially with the USB flash drive input. However, there are a couple complaints I have...

No fast way to jump across a whole bunch of tracks (with a 4 GB USB flash drive, this is a big problem if you want to skip ahead), no time position indicator in the file, and no way to seek into the middle of a file.

As I use it for audio books, this is a major problem, as a single file can be 15-30 minutes long or longer, and if I'm just a couple minutes from the end, and need to get out to get fuel or restart the vehicle, it will only save the file, and start from the beginning. I either have to listen to nearly the whole thing all over again, or skip to the next track and miss the last couple minutes of the previous track.

I have no problems with the power output, and the fact that it runs off the cigarette lighter means I never have to worry about batteries. One solution to the problem of not seeking in a file, though (other than adding a button to do so) would be to build it with a rechargeable battery internally, so if the power is cut to the cigarette lighter plug, the transmitter will still have power from the internal battery, preventing the loss of place with a file.

I live in a rural area, and there's not much risk of interference from other stations. This could be a problem in a more urban area, but it seems to work for me when I have to go to Salt Lake City (though I do have to change to a different frequency when I get there).

I would NOT recommend this product for listening to music, however. The sound quality is too poor, and the bass and treble seem to be cut off. I think this may be due to FCC regulations (as is the limit on the power output), but I'm not sure. This is FAR better than that Belkin transmitter I've got which runs on 2 AA batteries (that only last about two hours), cost more, and has a far weaker output.

So, in short, if you drive for long periods of time, this guy works great. You can find free public domain audiobooks on the Internet.
