Good concept, a few bugs, a little overpriced now

When I purchased this unit it was much cheaper than it is now, so while I was satisfied with the price then, now it seems a little high. As others mentioned you get 15-20 minutes every time you press the button - there is no "on/off" switch.

The Positives:

Battery life is really long. I've used it to run my GPS and charge my cell phone for several days between recharges. Compatibility running on battery is really good (until the unit shuts itself off)

The Negatives:

APC suggests you can hook the AC charger to the battery, then connect it to your device. There are two problems here. First, when you unplug the AC adapter, the battery doesn't kick in fast enough and my garmin GPS shuts off. Second, the USB behaves like the AC charger they include when plugged in to AC. The problem is that their wall-wart doesn't negotiate like a true USB port and some items (like motorola phones) won't charge when plugged in this way. It's really meant for portable use and then to be recharged as the internal battery runs down.

The power button is a two-edged sword. If it were a switch I'd probably forget to turn it off half the time and have a dead battery as a result. As a button it turns off too quick for a full recharge making you keep pressing it. It does work fine the way it is if you keep pressing it every 10 minutes.

works great

The APC UPB10 power pack worked great throughout my trip around Europe. Between the iPhone battery and this external battery, I could pretty much watch movies all through 12-hour flights and 8-hour train rides. Also as a generic USB power supply, it can charge bluetooth headsets and other devices.

Other reviews have mentioned the need to press the button every 15 minutes to keep the power going, and that did cause me to hesitate a bit before ordering this product. However, I've found this to be the case only when the device I'm powering is already fully charged and no longer drawing much external power. In other words, it will fully charge a phone from empty unattended even if it takes 3 hours, but it will not continually power a fully-charged iPod because the power draw is too low, even when playing music or videos. Yes, maybe they could have had a switch, or maybe the threshold could be lower, but I felt it to be a non-issue once I understood what it was doing. I just use it as a charger and not a continuous power source.

Must have travel charger! - perfect for iPhone

I have purchased at least three different devices to try to give myself an extra power boost for my iPhone when I travel (since I like to watch videos/movies or listen to music on the plane but still want to be able to make a phone call when I arrive). None have worked very well until this device. It is awesome and works not only with my iPhone, but also with iPod and with my laptop computer. It has been a real time-saver for me and I only wish I had found it first. Easy to charge, small enough to carry conveniently - carry even in a purse.

Quality product

Works as advertised in real world use. I have charged my Blackberry and i pod several times and experienced no difficulties. You just have to remember to push the button to wake the device up before it will charge anything. Very useful on long trips where electrical outlets are not handy.

Well worth the $

I've only had this for about a month now. I bought for a trip I was taking to use with my iPhone and work blackberry. I didn't want to carry all the extra cables and plugs. It worked great on the trip. As an extra added bonus the recent severe storms that have been rolling through the U.S. have knocked out power to my home twice now for hours at a time. I was able to keep my iPhone charged through the whole thing while using it for music and surfing the web to keep tabs on additional torando and severe thunderstorm warnings and to keep in touch with the power company's website to get an ETA on when the power might be restored. I've been able to extend the life of the iPhone by several hours using this device. Works like a champ, it's small and compact.
