Good MP3 player for a good price

I purchased this to replace another Sansa MP3 that quit working after two years. This one had hour times the memory and for under $100 was a steal. The larger memory allows me to download video files and watch them during trips. I would prefer to have more memory, but this one, for the money is a good buy.

Exceptional Deal

The Sansa E280 8 GB is a great buy. If you are like me and just want an mp3 player for music it is easily a 10. It can be used for photos but I have used it only for music. It is easy to use and has great storage capacity which is easily synced using Windows Media Player. I love mine. Just remember to buy a protective sleeve for it or a sheild protector to prevent unwanted scratches on the screen. Enjoy.

Good but the user interface could be better

I'm a mp3 player rookie. My son has a 30gb ipod and I'd played with it. I got the Sansa e280 to listen to podcasts and music. As a music player it's fine but I'd like things to work differently when I'm listening to a podcast. You can scan through a song (or podcast in my case) but only after poking around in the menus a little and if you stop scanning the player takes you out of scan mode after some brief time passes, so back to the menus I go to scan forward some more. I would love it if the big button changed the ring mode from volume to scan forward/back. I also wish I could bookmark a podcast.

Syncing things up requires Windows Media Player 10 and I didn't want to upgrade to it, so I'm stuck doing a clunky sync by hand, which I don't like much but realize that's my problem until I upgrade to a newer version of Windows Media Player. I wish there was some other poor man's sync software.

When I first received this unit it would only come up in a mode to synch with Windows Media Player instead of the other mode that makes it look like a USB disk drive that you can drag files too. Had to search for a way to change this behavior and once I upgraded the firmware a new menu option appeared that allowed me to switch the connection mode back and forth. Note that the player came pre-loaded with some music that you can't see in the disk drive mode - strange.

After a few weeks the Sansa didn't feel so clunky to me and I'm enjoying it more.

Easy to use

This is not my first SanDisk MP3 player so it was easy to learn to use it. Very nice product. Small but not too small to view. Weight is perfect in that if it were any lighter you might forget it and any heavier it would become a burden. Very satisfied with the e280.

Sold my iPod, Bought this, Love It

Here are the pros and cons of this player:
Pros
+ works with Rhapsody subscription service (iPod doesn't) --- huge improvement over the time it takes to download "free" tunes from Limewire, etc ...
+ awesome battery life -- can't believe I put up with the weak battery on my nano
+ lightweight, easy to handle, great screen
+ includes FM radio
+ price is well worth it compared to ipod

Cons
- flywheel / user interface not as smooth as iPod, but still good

I'll try to update this review as I continue to work with this device but overall, I'm a fan, especially when it's paired with a subscription music service. no idea why apple doesn't have a subscription service, but they just lost a customer here.
