Top of Line Flashlight

I have owned several Maglight products, but this is the first LED Maglight. The product you want when your flashlight absolutely must work.

Beautiful Engineering

The MAG INSTRUMENT MAGLITE LED 4D FLASHLIGHT, named after inventor Anthony Maglica, is a superior engineered product that seems to be nearly indestructible. Solidly constructed and nearly 15" long, it is built to last a lifetime. Years ago I had a 3D cell version with an incandescent light bulb which was recommended by a friend, and I was never disppointed by its performance. Sadly, one day it grew legs and disappeared. This new version with the LED light is even better, which is a pleasant surprise, since so many products are made with cheaper materials today. There is also a spare Krypton lamp in the tailcap when the LED finally burns out (No, I don't think it's from planet Krypton, but it is super).

This flashlight has quite a bid of heft, and will make one want to toss out cheaper plastic/rubber lights. It is fairly heavy, so some people might prefer Mag Instrument Maglite LED 3D Flashlight, Black #ST3D016 which is shorter and lighter. I recommend keeping a Maglite in the car and a second one in the house. You'll thank me later.

Not quite as bright

I bought both the LED and non-LED version of this light at the same time and have used them both for about a month. The LED version is not quite as bright as the non-LED version and casts an unusual bluish light, compared to the yellowish white light that most people associate with flashlights. That said, the battery life is terrific, and I am generally pleased, but I am unlikely to buy another LED Maglite until there have been improvements to the color of light produced by the bulb.

Amazing as expected......

I don't know what else to add to all the reviews.. Its an amazing product, reliable and now improved. if your thinking of buying a flashlight for any purpose this should be your only option.

Like many other manufacturers, Mag Instrument has expanded its line of flashlights to include models featuring LED-type bulbs. Why? LEDs are virtually unbreakable, and they are far more efficient than incandescent bulbs. As the product name suggests, this Maglite runs on 4 D-type batteries, which will take a while to run out thanks not only to the LEDs but also to Mag Instrument's Intelligent Energy Source Management, which balances high brightness against extended battery life. The bright, powerful beam adjusts from spot to flood simply by rotating the head. You also have some flexibility in terms of lighting sources-use either the installed LED module or the Krypton lamp (stored in the tailcap). The case is made from a high-strength aluminum alloy that has been anodized inside and out, which gives you water- and shock-resistance in a lightweight package. High-quality O-rings at both openings keep water away from the batteries.
