You get what you pay for

The CopperHead is rather expensive, but it appears to be better made than the major brands and it definitely chops documents into finer bits than the others. To get a finer shred, you'd most likely have to pay for a service. It's fast and very quiet and the motor doesn't seem to "grunt" or bog down when you shred the maximum recommended number of sheets. The sound actually changes very little when the paper hits the cutters.

A minor but handy feature that's not mentioned in the ads or user manual is a small bin that fits on top of the main basket. It catches the bits of plastic when you shred a credit card or a CD, so plastic doesn't get mixed in with the paper. This eliminates the need to empty the basket before shredding plastic, making it easy to keep things separate for recycling.

There is an overheat warning light and auto shut down. My previous unit had neither and simply burned up without warning when I had a lot of shredding to do. The basket slides out of the front of the unit so it's not necessary to lift the (heavy) shredder head off the basket to empty it.

The user manual warns not to pour oil into the machine, but recommends instead to use "high quality lubricant sheets" each time the basket is emptied. These are available at any office store (or Amazon.)

I haven't had the unit long enough to test it thoroughly, but seems to work as advertised and it's well designed and put together. Like most everything else these days, it's from China.

Excellent Shredder

We have not had our QCH300 long, but have been very impressed with how quiet it is and how small it cuts. This shredder is a must for anyone who thinks security is a priority with their personal information!

A QUALITY SHREDDER

I received the 500 model shipped by the company as an upgrade. It's a dot larger, but does axactly as described. I have NO complaints and will NEVER purchase another. It works great and is quiet.

quiet and safe

This shredder is a best buy. I've owned it now a whole 2 days and shredded 3 bins of material. It is so quiet that you almost can't tell it's running. I only put in half the rated pages and the motor never struggles and the results are not readable in ANY WAY. I would never use a regular cross cut/strip shredder again as the security vs cost of this machine makes it a moot point. I have shredded CD's and credit cards and no grinding/struggling/funky sounds/smells it just shreds everything. The extra bin for the CD's/credit cards is a nice touch and keeps the paper shred left overs neatly contained in the bin when you empty it. As for the bin you have a nice clear window to see how full it is, a nice extra. I love the bin because you don't have to remove the shred head/motor to empty it which with my previous shredders was alway a huge mess. The looks of the shredders are small office neat and clean and the rollers are a nice touch as this shredder is heavy about 25 lbs. The only bad part that I see with this unit is that it will do about 1/2 a bin at a time before the over temp light shuts down for a period of time.
