Braun 7-790

I do not find this razor $130 better than my old Norelco which cost $70. Within a few hours my face feels like it needs a shave again. Also, the flip out long hair cutter is not very convenient as it sticks out of the front and, therefore, is difficult to reach place like the top of the ear or inside the ear.

What a nice item!

I've been using a Remington Titanium razor for the last 5 years (give or take a year), and before that a Norelco rotary razor. Both of those were gifts.

I was never satisfied with the Norelco, as the heads seemed to wear quite fast and when they got dull, it really pulled. The Remington I've had for a while. It's battery is starting to go. So why didn't I buy another Remington? Well, the razors inside the head needed replacing every 6 months, though, sometimes I could get 9 months out of them (and this last one has lasted for over a year, but then again, I haven't been shaving as much--more on that in this review). Also, this razor is messy! Hair gets all over the place; my wife hates it ;). And it's very loud; it actually sounds like a mulch machine/branch chipper!

Another frustrating thing about the two other razors I've used: the Norelco was not cordless; the Remington was cordless, but if the battery died, you couldn't plug it into the wall and use it. If you turned on the razor while it was plugged in, it would stop charging, and hence, would not power the razor. With the Remington, I found that I needed to buy that special face powder to make the shaving go better, but that also was ever more messy (now you've got hair AND powder everywhere).

I just got the Braun yesterday. It seems to solve all my problems: a close shave (a bit closer than the Remington), it can be plugged in and used if the battery dies, it's very clean (doesn't leak much hair during shaving and has a self-cleaning system), and, contrary to another review, is MUCH quieter than the Remington. Today, it did pull at my beard a bit, BUT, I haven't shaved in four days AND I just got it--it's quite possible my beard needs to get used to it yet. Should I continue to have any problems, I'll update this review.

A couple of other things to note: the shaving head won't need replacing for approx. 18 months! WOW! I used to spend $35 every 6. Now I'll spend $40 - $45 every 18! That's a savings of $60-$65/year. Of course, there are the cleaning cartridges, which are $19 ea. (or a 12-pack for $60 here on Amazon.com). Now, most people say that they last longer than 30 shaves, and if you only shave every other day, you may even stretch them to last 60 days or more--so it really depends.

So far, this thing is great. I love it, and better yet, my wife loves it, too.
