This dvd gives a very good view of this rather odd but charming artist. excellent quality of the recording together with sensitive camera men making the concert to a real pleasure. If you like Max Raabe you like this dvd and the concert.

Exceptional Creativity and Good Music

Max Raabe has developed a musical schtick that is very entertaining and he is extraordinarily successful with what he has created. Max was a music student who saw a niche and filled it. The niche was the absence of "modern day" bands which were playing (and singing) the between the-wars music of the roaring 20s, especially, but not limited to, the German musical variations from the dance halls and films of that day. Max can seem a little strange with some of his emotionless mannerisms, but they are, for the most part, concocted to project how he views the music he is singing. Just sit back, enjoy the tunes and think about how much fun it was way back then when lyrics had some semblance of comprehensible meaning, even if fanciful. Above all, this style is intended to be FUN for the listener.

A Rave for Max Raabe & Palast Orchester

I've watched this dvd over & over. If you love the popular music of the 1920's, '30's & 40's - this is a real upper. Max Raabe and his orchestra have recreated the authentic sound and look of the era. I have some old recordings of German tangos of the period and many recordings of American music of the period and the arrangements are faithfully reproduced with all the gusto, excitement and life of the originals. This is great music and a wonderfully entertaining dvd, the kind that makes you feel happy - what a gift!

GREAT VIEWING BUT AN ACQUIRED TASTE

I am a fan of music from the 20s and 30s so this was great for me. The main focus is German dance and film music from that period and is, perhaps, an acquired taste. The performance by Max Raabe and the Orchester is a delight.

Unfortunately we did not spot that the DVD format is NTSC and we have a PAL format TV. We resolved this.
