Bravia, still the best in the game

I have had my 60" Bravia for about 2 months and it has been love at first site ever since I took it out of the box. Like everyone else I researched the net, read the reviews, and looked at countless sets in retail stores. I was originally sold on a 61" Samsung LED DLP TV for the longest time until I was inspecting one at a retail store. I noticed that the top corners of the screen would flex pretty severely along with the screen lens when I pulled or pushed on them. When I went over to the Sony and did the same test the whole TV would tip forward. Obviously Sony is using a higher grade plastic for their cases. The feature that sold me on the Bravia was the XBar menu system. With 4 different inputs going in to the TV and constantly switching between the TV speakers and my surround setup, the XBar menu is a pleasure to use and very well thought out. Plus, the Bravia is just a nice looking TV even when turned off. The lower glass panel adds a little style to it that no other TVs, RPT, Plasma, or LCD seems to have. I could write more and echo what everyone else has already said about this TV but believe me when I say this. Bang for the buck, even 5 years from now, you can not and will not beat this TV. Hats off to Sony for making such a wonderful and well priced RPT.

Absolutely stunning

I am absolutely stunned with the quality of this TV. I was originally set on getting a 50" Panasonic plasma, but whenever I visited Circuit City to look at TVs I kept coming back to this one. The colors were so realistic and the picture so smooth. So I finally decided that I'd be happier with a bigger 60" LCOS than a 50" plasma, and save about $700. I've had absolutely no regrets.

I have the TV hooked up to my Media Center PC via HDMI and both movies and games (PC and Xbox 360) look fantastic in 1080p. I don't use the built in speakers, so I can't comment on those. The onscreen controls are usable enough, and once you set the picture profiles you can just hit a button to scroll through them. I don't change them that much anyway, I keep it on "standard". I like that the input menu says the type of input (HDMI, Component, SVideo, etc), unlike some other brands that I've seen (like a Sharp that had Input 1, Input 2, etc) where you have to remember what's what.

I view the TV from about 12' and it's perfect. I'm glad I went with the 60". Also, the viewing angle is pretty wide for a projection. I sit on a couch in the middle of my room, so 170 deg viewing isn't important anyway.

The best price I could find was at Video Only, which was $300 less than Circuit City, with free delivery. I've owned this TV for about 3 months.

Absolutely Stunning RPTV!!!

The Sony KDS 60A3000 is an incredible HDTV. I've had it now almost 5 months. I ordered it December 21, 2007 from Amazon for $1,699.99, no tax, no shipping and received it on December 29, 2007 on Long Island. (Lost shipping days for Christmas) Crutchfield was the vendor that supplied the TV and Eagle/Ceva was the trucking company. I was a bit skeptical about ordering such a large tv on line, but it arrived as promised in perfect condition. Tracking info on line was always accurate. I would buy this way again. Furthermore, Crutchfield has a 30 day money back guarantee. Soooo if you don't like it, you can always return it.

If you want a 60 inch tv, RPTV is the way to go. I did a lot of research and compared plasma vs lcd vs RPTV. If want a tv this size YOU HAVE TO GO RPTV. Plasma and lcd of this size are tooooo expensive. I did a cost analysis and if you consider the higher cost of operating the plasma tv (500 watts more than an lcd or rptv) and include the cost of replacement bulbs ($150) then a RPTV will save you over $2000 over 10 years. If you need a tv 50 inch or smaller, then go plasma.

The picture is absolutely stunning!! It rivals the picture on the best plasma sets. The blacks are really BLACK! And you can still see the details! You can see depth in the picture. WOW!! The colors are really awesome. I have a good eye and I've never seen such a picture. I bought a Sony 46 inch LCD S2000 model last year and thought it had a great picture, but this RPTV beats it. I think the reason is that the black level, contrast and color gradations are so good that it adds so much to the picture quality.

I was watching Letterman last night on both sets and it looked like you were on the stage with David on the RPTV. The picture on the LCD was also excellent, but depth/3D was truly amazing on the RPTV.

We watched the movies Live Long or Die Hard, Galaxy Quest and Resident Evil played on an ordinary Samsung DVD player and the picture was almost HD quality due to the upconverting capability of the 60A3000. I sit 9 feet from the TV and the picture is perfectly sized. Sony recommends a minimum viewing distance of 7 feet.

The set sits on a sofa table that is 27 inches high.

Standard definition pictures from the cable box also look better on this set vs the Sony LCD S2000.

I calibrated the set based on settings I got from the internet: CNET, AV Guide, Home Theater Mag and AVS forum. These settings do a great job of calibrating the set.

Sony says the 120 watt projection lamp is good for 8000 hours so it should last four years assuming a usage of 5 hours/day

Horizontal viewing angle is very good with no loss of picture quality, I would estimate 100 degrees.

The remote control is very sturdy and the menu system is very easy to use. However, the buttons are not backlit.

All of the inputs are conveniently located on an angled side panel.

Sony Projection HDTV

The shipment of the TV arrived earlier than advertised (a good thing) and the deliverymen put it in place for me. I quickly read the instructions, very simple and intuitive, and had the Sony up and running in very short order, and wow! What a picture, vibrant, ultra clear, spectacular. I hooked up a Play Station 3 to it and another wow, the ultimate Blue-Ray picture. I researched and visited Best Buy, Circuit City, Costco, Sears and others - and Amazon had the best price and ultimately best service. The Sony projection has no peer at least in my subjective opinion after looking at TV after TV at the stores cited above. The set is attractive and despite its size it seems to fit in nicely and doesn't dominate visually. I don't use the inherent sound capability and have hooked up my Bose system to it for a great theater sound. I am a very satisfied customer with both Amazon and with my Sony Projection TV (by the way, at 1080i and 1080p, I can't perceive the difference between the other brand LCDs or plasmas, it is that good, oh yeah, it is $1500-2500 cheaper, now that may have had an influence on my perception:))

Best Choice Made!

Purchased this tv back in November, cannot believe how wonderful it is! We spent months researching, went to every electronic store you can imagine, read hours and hours of reviews online. After it was all said and done, we knew we wanted a Sony Bravia. Before getting the Directv HDDVR, the quality was great, after getting it, our experience went to a whole new level. Every detail, every movement, just flows on this machine. Watching the SuperBowl, priceless. Over all, with all of our holiday shopping @ the time, this was by far the smartest and best purchase we made all year!
