Awesome First Impressions!

I've only had this for a month so I can't comment on it's long-term reliability. But so far I've been very happy with it. Out of the box it's a small, handsome product. Though most of the exterior is plastic, not metal as it suggests in the picture, it doesn't look cheap. The bottom side is metal, however, so my concern about heat dissipation was alleviated. The power plug fits nice and snug as do my FireWire cables.

As far as operation, this little unit has run without problems thus far. It's very quiet and fairly fast. I had contacted LaCie prior to this purchase and they told me this had the Oxford 911 FireWire chipset. The Oxford chipsets have the reputation of being the most dependable, especially when used with Mac's. I have no way of verifying this but this drive has been dependable so far.

One thing that concerns me is the on/off button in the back. It's kind of neat, not like the simple toggle switch I'm used to, but doesn't look durable. This on/off mechanism seems to require an added level of complexity that could malfunction in the future, but only time will tell.

Overall I love this little unit. It's sleek, compact and quiet. Once I feel confident in it's long-term reliability, I may purchase another one.

great drive

This is an excellent HD that works well with the Mac interface. It is sleek, with a small footprint. The two types of interface work great and give you lots of options. It's a great deal for the price.

Daily Use

I use the LaCie drive as my back up for Time Machine on my new iMac. Has been very dependable.
In general I love LaCie drives, I have 5. Working in design and photography I need back up drives I can count on.

A little SLOW

This drive is nice and big, but on the slow side. I definitely recommend partitioning it before you start using it. That may help it along. But works fine otherwise.

Performs Flawlessly

I've had this drive for about 6 months now, and it has performed flawlessly. It's added storage for my iMac G4 set-up. I've used LaCie products in the past, and they've always been very reliable. Will be buying another LaCie drive (for another computer) today.
