Excellent & Affordable GPS

The Garmin nuvi 260 is an excellent GPS at a very affordable price. It does everything it supposed to and does it well. The slight drawback to the product may be that when you first plug in your destination, it sometimes takes as long as 5 minutes to 'find satellites'.

However, once it finds the satellites, it is works beautifully.

Garmin Nuvi 260

I spent a fair amount of time researching GPS models before deciding on the Garmin Nuvi 260. This GPS is ideal in many ways: The price is low, it has the features I need (text to voice) and is a reliable system. While the Nuvi 200 or 200W are nice, they don't have the voice to text, which actually helps immensely when you can't see road signs, or several roads are in close proximity as you come up. The 260W is a little bigger (saw it in the store), but really, is it worth the extra money for a slighly larger screen (0.7inches)?. I don't think so, as the standard 3.5 inch is perfectly clear and easy to work with. Honestly, since you're literally within arms reach of it. Why would you need a large screen? The larger one is also harder to transport, as many standard camera bags, etc can accomodate the nuvi 260. My only issue with the system is it cannot direct me to my house accurately. However, neither can google maps, mapquest, or any of the map generating programs available, so I'll let that go as it's as good at mapping as any other system or program. I highly recommend this system for anybody who wants a great GPS without the cost and doesn't care about a built in phone that you can't upgrade anyway

Just what I was looking for

Simple to use and works as advertised. I often travel for work so I wanted a portable GPS I could take and use in a rental and that is why I chose the Nuvi. I paid the $40 in extra money for the voice capability so my wife wouldn't be distracted when it was her turn to use the GPS. Easily registered the unit and updated the software using my PC and the Garmin website. I used the same USB cable we have for our digital camera. I've never had an issue seeing the screen in the sunlight. I've found a few map errors, but those are in very remote locations and were minor - much better than relying on the free map sites on the internet. I'm amazed at how fast this acquires a satellite signal and pinpoints the location (almost instantly) - way faster than my handheld Garmin I use for hunting and fishing. This was an excellent value and the best gadget I've purchased in a long time.

Garmin Nuvi 260

I would say that I am pleased with the Garmin 260. It has everything one would need in a navigation system at an affordable price. Could there be more toys on it to make it more interesting, sure. However, those really are not needed. If you're looking for a good system with plenty of appeal and a good price try the 260.

GARMIN nuvi 260

I previously had a Tom Tom One. While adequate, it does not come close to the features on the nuvi 260. First & foremost, the text to speech feature, with detailed instructions is great. Additionally, it is easier to use, with a much greater intuitive operation than the One. If your looking for a full featured GPS, in a small package, this is the one to get.
