Olympus Zuiko 7-300mm
Cannot say anything but outstanding! I use this as my primary
lens
for all of my action (softball) shots. Supurb lens.
zuiko 70-300 yes
great
lens
yes it searches for focus in low light or low contrast
but it is awesome in all other situations
also a great lens for close up macro type photography=
as long as you can get back 3 ft you can zoom all the way in!
i have seen colors and patterns on insects I never ever would have known were there
pretty amazing macro ability
very fun nature lens
i do often hand focus at the end as the depth of field isn't great.
you want the eyes of birds etc to be sharp , and I can end up
with the tail etc in focus and the eyes soft if you do automatic focus
with this in mind it is awesome and I've also taken a number of
birds on the wing that have come out great
love it with the E3
am considering the 50-200 now that the price is coming down just
for the low light in the woods type shots
excellent highly recommended
also I use it almost exclusively handheld with the E3
and often full telephoto- no problem!!
oh and did I mention the price?

Olympus Zuiko 70-300mm Lens
I purchased this
lens
a month ago, to use with the
Olympus
E520 and also like other reviewers, have been quite surprised with the magnification and clarity. I use it almost exclusively outdoors with either a monopod or tripod. The autofocus is slower than I would like at times and is best used with a support system for the sharpest pictures. However, don't let these limitations scare you away. It is a great lens. I purchased it to capture animals, foliage, scenic, and outdoor sporting events and have not been disappointed. Within the first five days of owning this lens, I captured the best hummer and blue bird shots in 30 years of being a novice photographer. I look forward to testing it daily for many years to come.

Excellent for the price
I was looking to add a telezoom to my set of two
lens
es that came packaged with the camera (
Olympus
E510). This one seemed to fit the bill since it wasn't too expensive, and offered a nice reach beyond the 150mm that I already had. The lens did not disappoint for the price.
The lens is not too heavy, making it possible to shoot hand held. To overcome the problem of camera shake at
300mm
I'm using it at ISO 400 or ISO 800 plus turn on the image stabilization of my Olympus E510. The latter seems to help much more at a long focal length compared to shorter ones. I ran a quick (not scientific) test and shot a few pictures at 1/60 at 300mm without Image Stabilization, all had to be tossed. Turning Image Stabilization on would yield a few that were usable. So that helps a little to overcome the limited F value of 5.6 at the 300mm end of the lens.
I would recommend this lens if the goal is to shoot hand held outside with a descent amount of light. At 300mm (F5.6) my experience shows that I need to get at least 1/100 (better 1/160) to have a good chance the picture will come out sharp under those conditions. Your milage may vary ...
