Excellent headset

I love gadgets and I've owned over 15 blue tooth headsets of six different manufacturers. This one is probably the best: great sound, vibrates to indicate incoming calls, long battery life, best volume controls I've seen, very comfortable and secure, and is eye glass friendly.

Granted it is big, but I personally don't care as long as it works as well as it does.

Big enough for the job

Most people in my perception want things to be small. There are some things that need to be large enough to fit a human being. Remember watch calculators? Don't see much of them anymore. I've tried many hands-free devices (both bluetooth and wired). I've found that the best performance for both sound quality and consistency are the ones that put the microphone closest to your mouth. Most bluetooth handsfree devices are so small they barely come an inch from your ear. Some even fold out the microphone an extra inch (more on that later). The Jabra BT500v (and the BT500) have the length to reach close enough to your mouth without picking up a lot of ambient noise, and the microphone is point outward instead of at your cheek. Other devices point the microphone at your cheek to reduce the ambient noise. What ends up happening is depending on how it fits your face, the microphone is pressed against your cheek during normal movement and can't pick up any audible sound. It just sounds like mumbling. It's annoying to both parties to listen to half of every other word (the one talking is told to repeat everything). It's size also lends to it's stability. It hugs your ear and is heavy enough that it stays in place. It's just heavy enough to let you know you're wearing it without being uncomfortable. The one-piece design also lends to ruggedness. I've had several bluetooth devices with the extending microphone boom, but those broke within weeks, too many moving parts. Nothing on this unit is activated by bending or folding. The only feature about this product that I have a negative comment about is also the same feature that makes being able to hear so well. The ear-gel adaptor directs sound directly into your ear, so you don't even have to have the volume all the way to maximum to have a conversation. They come in 2 different sizes (short and long), and the unit comes with 2 short and 2 long adapters. The negative is that they easily come off of the unit. Putting them in your purse or pocket can expose them to things that might pull them off. You have to be careful how it's stored or the ear-gel comes off. If it does, hearing out of the unit is very difficult. Be careful when storing it (true with all bluetooth devices), but it does it's job (to let me hear my conversation) well.
