Excellent Digital Frame. Simple with Great Resolution
I was interested in a
digital
picture
frame
for my girlfriend for Christmas, and went to my local camera/
photo
store to check them out. Hands down, this one had the best resolution and seemed very simple to operate. It comes with slots for SD and CF cards as well as a port to connect directly to a computer via Firewire. The store clerk advised to not use larger than a 1GB SD card and also that he heard from previous purchasers that direct connection to a computer had some issues. Since I loaded photos onto the SD card using a USB card reader I haven't experienced the direct-to-computer connection so I can't comment.
My girlfriend really loves the item and the pictures appear crystal clear and vibrant on the frame. After loading many digital pictures there is still tons of capacity left for more pictures.
It has several viewing options, and also acts as a clock and alarm clock if necessary. We haven't used these features.
Some things to keep in mind: It does not include any kind of remote control, nor does it play movies.

Best LCD frame for around $100 I've seen, QUICK CONFIG TIPS and HOW TO USE THE ANNOYING BUTTONS !
First, let us say this is the best
frame
we've seen for $100 as of February of 2008 for the resolution, fit and construction and just necessary features.
It doesn't play MP3's, it doesn't have a remote control, it isn't WiFi OR TOUCH SCREEN MENUS and a ton of other things you don't want to get phone calls from your non technically fluent relative or proverbial grandma from Indiana that is considered the typical model of a non technically sophisticated user.
Ask yourself, do you want an LCD frame you can give away as a usable gift or do you want a frame you give away that just ends up in a desk drawer because the recipient finds it impossible to use ?

=========================
- The Quick Start guide is the only guide the device comes with, ours came with two quick start guides in every language known to man except Klingon! BUT, detailed instructions beyond a steps 1-30 aren't included on paper or PDF and the web site is also lacking for additional details.
Qapla!
- It may seem obvious but it has to be reiterated because the device supports numerous card formats including CF, SD and others but since these devices are coming in sizes larger than 2GB, ALL CARDS HAVE TO BE FORMATTED WITH FAT16 OR FAT32 / NTFS CARDS ARE RECOGNIZED AS DEVICES BUT THE PICTURES AREN'T READ AND YOU'LL GET JUST AN AMBIGUOUS "NO PICTURES FOUND" ERROR. We've read complaints by others on the web and forums at the
HiTi
web site about cards not read, No Pictures Found and they always described large capacity cards that are more than likely NTFS.
- Just delete or move the built in sample pics off the device, the frame comes with about a dozen sample pics of happy families in joyous places just like the ones that come with the brass picture frame you buy at Target or the wallet you buy at Macy's. The frame can end up with these pics in the rotation and you can just delete them or cut and paste them off the frame altogether. Use the enclosed Mini USB or any Mini or Micro USB cable to interface to your system, the device will display as three removable storage devices in Windows Explorer but just one 26MB drive in compmgmt.msc. Weird.
- You do not have to resize the pics, other reviewers on other sites have mentioned the pics have to resized to 4 x 6 inches but our version did this automatically.
- The buttons, these are the only annoying feature we've found so far and are frustrating until you get the hang of it.
Step 1, while holding the frame in both hands , right side up and with the LCD facing you, there are SIX buttons on the top row, ONE power button on the lower right hand corner with a blue LED and ONE recessed RESET button on the lower left hand corner that needs a push pin or paper clip to use similar to a reset button on a Palm Pilot or PocketPC PDA.
The buttons are shaped in alternating style, starting from the left side and your left index finger:
Circle Oval Circle Oval GAP Circle Oval
..and their functions:
Left Right DOWN UP GAP OK(Select) Home(BACK)
Where you really get frustrated at first is since the order of things is typically, Left Right, Up then Down,, the menus and your maneuvering gets jacked up when trying to move down instead of up.
There isn't a way to configure the device from your PC so learn how to use the buttons, the best comparison I can make is the menus are built like the ones on a TV set or a Tivo where you have a set of root choices and sub menus and most sub menus will be displayed on the screen at the same time as the root to give you some breadcrumbs to get back. You don't have to Save your changes when changing the config, choices are committed immediately.
You can always press Home (far right button) to get back to the root menu and you can also reset to factory defaults from the menu choices instead of having to use the rest button.
The device also stores these changes inside a hidden directory named System inside a few *.ini files, we suggest you back up this directory when the device is configured just in case you have to flush the settings and you want to jumpstart your reload.
Enjoy the frame, it is really a decent frame for the money.
