After I saw this new Gatorade, I ordered some to try it out because initially I expected an energy drink and was a bit disappointed that it has no caffeine in it. Apparently this is a real sports product and what people here haven't noticed is that actually there's no sugar or high fructose corn syrup in it. Maltodextrin, isomaltulose and dextrose are the ingredients that cause the high calorie amount in it. I haven't heard of isomaltulose before and looked it up on the web. This is a new carbohydrate that gives longer energy to the body and does not cause a sharp rise in blood sugar levels. I tried it out before running and did feel less exhausted towards the end of my course. I think this new Gatorade is for people that actually need energy for physical activity, if you're just looking for a fancy new soda better grab something else. The only downside is the taste, but the taste really isn't all that bad, it just could be better and it is still better than the 5 hour energy shots or any powerade out there. I'm not a huge fan of gatorade's taste to begin with anyways, though I do indeed like the fact that there is no high fructose corn syrup or sugar and I get a noticeable energy boost out of it.
Pretty much all I drink is Gatorade aside from a glass of orange juice with breakfast and milk for dinner. So I am always on the lookout for new products and flavors to try from the brand. The newest is a "Carbohydrate EnergyFormula" that is supposed to sustain intensity during training session. I really cannot confirm or deny that it does just that, but this orange flavor does have a tangy flavor which ranks near the bottom of their best flavors list.
Tasty orange replenishing drink--for athletes who are carb loading only!
This is a fine quality Gatorade product designed for replenishing glycogen stores for athletes. It has a tasty orange flavor similar to the regular Gatorade orange except it is sweeter. It has no stimulants such as caffeine. It is best to drink two hours before the workout for carb loading and after workout to restore glycogen.
Be warned--for those of us just looking to replenish fluids and electrolytes this is not the drink. For one thing it has 320 calories! Regular Gatorade has 130 calories for 20 oz.
