Superb speaker for the money

This is a great little speaker! I can honestly say that the sound this thing produces is simply amazing. Considering its size and price I was blown away-- as was my wife, who all but stole it from me upon discovering it on my nightstand!

Several reviews note a lack in the high notes, but I didn't notice if there was (at least not in the type of music I'm listening to).

As for battery life-- it's still running on the original batteries I put in it... probably around 10hrs of playtime thus far and no degradation of sound quality to speak of.

Good unit but wait for the updated model

All the positive reviews about the sound quality are correct. It sounds great for its size and is perfect for listening to an MP3 player, or your computer if it has lousy speakers. It's very portable.

All the negative comments about the on-off switch are correct. It is hard to turn off and on. I just visited the Altec Lansing website and saw that there is an updated model "coming soon", that has a real power button, a battery life indicater LED, and a carry case, included. There is no date for release. The new model looks like it might be a little bit bigger and they have redesigned the case, but I suspect that on the inside it is the same. The price is listed as $39.95 on the manufacturer's website.

So this new upcoming model looks like it addresses all our issues, and should be a five-star unit assuming no other blunders.

AND...a day later, here it is on Amazon! The new version, available in a month or two. Wait if you can.

Finally, a travel iPod speaker worth taking on a trip

For several years, I've been searching for an acceptable speaker to take on trips for listening to music (i.e., small, light, easily packable, decent sound), and finally found one. I'd bought five iPod-powered and battery-powered units before this, and the sound just didn't cut it with any of them. The only criticism I have of the iM207 is the on-off switch (you rotate the speaker cover's bezel), which is way too stiff on my speaker (I have no way to know whether this afflicts all of them, or if mine's an anomaly). But anyone looking for good sound from a small, compact speaker should find this to be a very good solution.

Review from an audiophile

No complain about the sound, my only gripe is the on/off switch, not very smooth (hard to turn it OFF/ON)which I think will not last long.

Great compact speaker but.....

This is a great speaker for travel. However, it is very hard for senior hands to get the cover off and on to replace batteries and also as mentioned previously to turn ON and OFF. I love the compact size and the sound is very good. You cannot expect the sound to be like twin Bose speakers!

Just remember the caveat for senions on this very nice item.
