From the supplier: Businesses that are oriented towards the industrial or service economy will have to prepare for the coming knowledge economy if they want to ensure their continued survival. It is time for these companies to turn their attention away from the production line, command-and-control systems, hierarchical information flows and other concepts that proliferated in the industrial economy of the 1950s and 1960s, and from 24-hour service, customized goods and services, convenient locations and other practices that emerged in the service-economy of the 1970s and 1980s. Companies in the 1990s are in the midst of the information economy, in which firms consider customer information to be more important than the customers themselves. They must position themselves for the looming knowledge economy of the 21st century where customers will look for products and services with built-in intelligence, such as smart toys and smart telephones.
