Smokin'

Flat out, hands down awesome. 2 people on guitars and all the noises they can make. The duo has heavy metal influences, and if you are looking for incredible instrumentals, look no further. Incredibly complex guitar playing will leave you stunned, reduced to saying "wow" over and over again. Pure genius.

This is awesome feel good music! I could listen to it over and over. I recommend it to anyone who has an appreciation for fantastic guitar playing. Rodrigo y Gabriela is simply wonderful.

Wow. I loved RyG's first album for their technical expertise, inspired arrangements of covers and pushing boundaries on the many ways to play acoustic guitars, so I was prepared to enjoy this album. Nothing prepared me for how much they have grown as artists and how much depth they exhibit in their work.

The compelling rhythms are still there, making this a fabulous work out soundtrack, but the interweaving of melodies and counters makes their music vibrate all the way through the listener.

They experiment and blend different genres- from traditional classical guitar sounds during Triveni and Master Maqui, to middle eastern sounds during Savitri and Atman to electric guitar riffs in Hora Zero and 11:11.

They definitely have a distinctive sound, but rather than being limited by it, they bridge into new areas and give the listener a different feel for familiar styles. Their voice isn't the center of their music. The music is the center and it pulls one in.

The end of 11:11 is a huge teaser. They hint at where they will take their listeners next. I, for one, can't wait to go!

Really good value

Superb quality, DVD is interesting, only possible critique is there could maybe be a bit more variety on the album (but you are getting more or less exactly what one might expect).

11:11 was recorded in Ixtapa, Mexico and produced by Rodrigo y Gabriela, with John Leckie co-producing one of the tracks. The album was mixed in Wales and London by Colin Richardson, best known for his work with Slipknot and Trivium.
Comprising 11 new original compositions, 11:11 is the band s personal Gracias to 11 musicians, both past and present, who have inspired them along the way. Alex Skolnick of metal gods Testament guests on the album, as do widely respected acoustic veterans Strunz & Farah.
If their self-titled debut was a successful attempt at capturing the unbridled dynamic energy of their incendiary gigs (mostly recorded live in the studio, with very few overdubs); then the new album sees them developing their core sound into something more sophisticated, intricate and varied. At the heart of the sound is still the stunning interplay between Rodrigo s dazzling lead work and Gabriela s unique rhythm play; but the base soundscape is now subtly supplemented by percussion, occasional piano and a fresh arsenal of stringed instruments from around the world, including oud and sitar. And - whisper it quietly the introduction here and there of electric guitar.
