percy jackson last olympian

bought for my 11 year old son who collects percy jackson and any greek mythology info. They are good clean fun books that help teach mythology without the child knowing he is getting facts form history. Every child in this family ages11 to 21 read and enjoyed

Great fun. . .good mythology

This review is for the entire series, although The Last Olympian is a solid ending to the fun--the choice of title and who that last Olympian is--is truly touching. The entire series is another for us who remain kids forever! Hopefully Riordan will take his place among all the great writers who have produced "quest" novels that not only embody the best of our civilization, but find a place in its heart. Riordan is spot on in his portrayal of the young protagonists and their braggadacio as they hurtle from one impossible challenge (at least one per chapter)to the next. (The dialogue is extremely well done.) Even better is his updating of the gods and their world--he is as consistent in his creation as Rowling, Adams, White, Alexander, Tolkien, Lackey, and Norton (and many others) are in theirs. In addition, the plot MOVES--so like the old cliffhangers my grandparents watched and enjoyed as kids--not a chapter goes by but that our young heroes(oines) get the better of some evil villain. And yes, Riordan uses a lot of "saved at the very last impossible minute" tricks, but they're very clever, and usually very funny. I began keeping a list of "ways out" as I read the books, just to track the author's inventiveness.
Also, while reading, I was "persuaded" to revisit Greek mythology, and I found that Riordan was spot on there as well. (Although why the Greeks decided that relationships of gods and nature spirits produced Cyclopes I will never understand!) I particularly liked his portrayal of Hestia and her importance in the great grand scheme of things. One caution--read the books or listen to the audio versions--the movie of the first book is. . .awful! Enjoy!

this book is amazing!

This book is amazing! its got everything: action, mythology, and a bit of romance. The minute i bought this book i could not put it down. from battling an evil Titan on the streets of Manhattan to learning about his enemy's past. My only piece of advice is BUY THE BOOK!!!

A Teen's Review

I'm a 13-year old avid reader. What a great way to wrap up a series! The Last Olympian ended perfectly and made sense! I have read many series where the last book still leaves you hanging and is just bad writing. I think Riordan closed all the openings and tightened all the loose ends. I enjoyed the whole battle from beginning to end. It showed high points and low ones and sometimes, i didn't think they were going to win. another nice touch was Rachel Elizebeth Dare becoming the Oracle.

All year the half-bloods have been preparing for battle against the Titans, knowing the odds of victory are grim. Kronos's army is stronger than ever, and with every god and half-blood he recruits, the evil Titan's power only grows. While the Olympians struggle to contain the rampaging monster Typhon, Kronos begins his advance on New York City, where Mount Olympus stands virtually unguarded. Now it's up to Percy Jackson and an army of young demigods to stop the Lord of Time.

In this momentous final book in the New York Times best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the long-awaited prophecy surrounding Percy's sixteenth birthday unfolds. And as the battle for Western civilization rages on the streets of Manhattan, Percy faces a terrifying suspicion that he may be fighting against his own fate.
