Dazzling performances of an extraordinary musician

Norah Jones did one more fantastic album. She continues to explore, with every new album something new she brings in and shows before our eyes and ears. She's incredibly talented one, for only such artists can breathe a kaleidoscope of different genres and musical styles. If she can do amazingly soulful jazz, bluegrass, explore rock and pop, sit in front of piano and strum an electric guitar, sing with Ray Charles and Peter Mallick Group, Dolly Parton and many others, I call that one incredible talent too afraid to be put into one shoebox .. but rather asking her audience humbly to set her free.
Don't try it folks; you can't fit Norah Jones into your shoe boxes and expect her singing all the same tunes all over again. If you like one of her albums, go and listen to it till you drop. But she has a right to explore music as she likes, and those who join her on the colourful journey, privileged are indeed and will enjoy music in its true sense.
Always new, always different, always unexpected. Exciting as Chasing Pirates, refreshing and Light as a Feather, Stuck in always new. I can even Tell Yer Mamma would like ya to find a wonderful lady like Norah is.

Perfection!

I'm still giddy from the swirling synths, hypnotising beats and THAT velvety, smokey voice. I think this may be her best album yet since the ubiquitous "Come Away With Me".

"The Fall" is a very strong album conceptually, but due to its lack of memorable/catchy hooks, first or second listens seem to just wash over you. On my later listens, I really got into the groove and for once, the woman known as Norah Jones seems to have really surfaced.

Besides light-hearted, feet-tapping "Chasing Pirates", stand-out tracks that really do it for me are:
- "Even Though" (written by Jones and Jesse Harris - the writer of "Don't Know Why") for its delicious electric guitar licks, which are at once psychedelic and soothing
- "Waiting"; a haunting track that would live up to Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash in 'dreamy' mode
- "It's Gonna Be" charges forward with a pounding beat and atmospheric voice that Jack White would be proud of
- "December" is a lovely, sickly, sweet ballad that brings back the crisp, tingly piano playing
- "Man Of The Hour" sports some witty and humorous lyrics to the piano only trademark album closers.
By the way, her brush with "My Blueberry Nights" seems to have rubbed off on her. "I Wouldn't Need You" sounds inspired by "The Greatest" by Cat Power.

This CD is close to perfection. The 45 minutes or so stay with you long after song #13 ends and my finger itches to push play again. It is Norah Jones revitalised, reinvented and restored to the pop/jazz bliss she is so well known for. Bravo.

My 2nd Favorite Norah Jones CD

Everyone seems to compare Norah's records to her first smash "Come Away With Me." I own all of her stuff - including her with the Peter Malick Group and The Little Willies - all are fantastic. I really love "The Fall." It is not to be compared with her earlier works - it is new and different. I love each of the pieces - favorites being "December" and "I Wouldn't Need You." I highly recommend this!

Would have been great, but...

...the distortion effect that they've added to the music is horrible!
I love Norah Jones. I'm a huge fan. I have all her albums, plus I've seen her in concert... but this is one annoying-sounding album.

Her voice is beautiful, and the songs are great, EXCEPT for the distortion effect. It makes it sound like an old-junky 1950's record or a dusty 70's 8-track or something horrible.

They should remove that effect and republish the album; it's THAT bad.

(my husband made me turn it off it was so bad sounding!)

This one is pop

And for me the best of her albums yet. On her past albums, I have liked a few tracks, but quickly tired of either the oldtime Jazz or country tone of her songs. Many were slow and not very exciting.

Norah takes a totally different track on this one. Almost all of the songs fit the pop genre and are upbeat. Before this album I thought Norah's best effort was the coloboration with the Peter Malick Band.

Norah has taken a new direction on the The Fall, experimenting with different sounds and a new set of collaborators, including Jacquire King, a noted producer and engineer who has worked with Kings of Leon, Tom Waits and Modest Mouse. Jones enlisted several songwriting collaborators, including Ryan Adams and Okkervil River's Will Sheff, as well as her frequent partners Jesse Harris & Richard Julian. Musicians include drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer). The first single/video is for the album's lead track 'Chasing Pirates'.
