Bloody amazing psu

Unlike the many other PSU's out there with the many wires sticking out, the cords are stored in a small bag that comes with the power supply in which you can plug in which power sources you need. It comes out so much more neater and looks so much nicer (since my case has a window)

The power is... well of course its sufficient and so far has not failed me nor has it failed my friends.

I bought this unit after my Corsair 750TX died in the middle of a Modern Warfare 2 session about 6 months ago. I read many reviews but the one that pushed me in this direction is JohnnyGuru's review who gave it some high marks in their very comprehensive review.

The first thing I noticed when I received the box was its size. The unit itself is one the biggest and heaviest supplies that I have ever come across. It is do deep that it takes up almost half the depth of my case and adds considerably to overall system weight. One must make sure that the case has adequate room for this monster to live and breathe properly. This, however, is a small price to pay for the quality you get.

6 months later, it is still powering my overclocked i7 920, 6gb ddr3, 1x300gb Velociraptor, 2x7200rpm sata, 2xhd5850, 6 fan, 1 optical drive system quite happily and I am sure it has a lot more headroom. This unit is a bit expensive but imo it is worth it because what you get is a clean, stable power output that prolongs the life of your components and also provides headroom for many future upgrades and overhauls.

Apart from actual performance, the modular nature of this unit is very useful in reducing cable clutter inside my Antec 900. In this day and age, modular is THE only way to go. I connected only the leads that I needed and the ones that were connected were hidden away quite comfortably. It also is very quiet. I dont even know its there as my video cards make way more noise that this unit's 140mm fan does. The cables are of more than adequate length and they are not too stiff. The braided sheath is a nice touch but it seems to be a standard among psu's these days.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the unit thus far and do not anticipate that I would be changing it any time soon.

I am updating my earlier one star rating for this PS unit that failed in two hours. Amazon.com thankfully returned the defected unit and I reordered a similar PS that has been working perfecly so far.

Absolutely fantastic, powerful, QUIET, and very efficient

My review is for the Corsair CMPSU-850HX 850-Watt HX Professional Series 80 Plus Certified Power Supply.

This is a very quiet, very efficient, modular ATX power supply. It is slightly larger, and a bit heavier than many. If you have a small case, or even a small ATX case where space may be a problem, double check the dimensions.

I've read various reviews of this, the one that caught my interest was on silentPC. There seems some debate, but many reviews indicate the fan doesn't usually turn on until this power supply is providing energy at or above 70% of it's rated power. So far, this seems true. It is a silent, capable power supply with a load of adapters for graphics cards. It comes with shielded cables for motherboards (it uses an 8 pin axillary motherboard connector) and 2 shielded PCI-E power cables for graphics cards, all PCI-E graphics card cables are 6 or 8 pin, the spare 2 pins can be attached (or not as necessary). I had no trouble attaching a pair of them using 6 pin connectors which were together on my XFX 5850 video card. The spare pins get out of the way and permit putting 2 sets of 6 PCI-E cables together even if there is no space between the power sockets on the video card.

This has a single 12 volt rail, which makes figuring out where to attach stuff to the modular connectors easy (attach them anywhere you want).

The fan is larger than I've been used to, however as this is an expensive unit, that is to be expected.

When this was first sold, it was as an 80 plus bronze. Some claim many units are 80 plus gold, currently it's being marketed as an 80 plus silver. In terms of energy efficient, this is near the top.

My need was very good, clean, power, and a lot of it, and extreme silence. This power supply has more than met that need. It is also backed by a 7 year warranty.

A nice black plastic / synthetic canvass textured bag is shipped with each unit to hold the modular cables.

If you may need 1, 2 or 3 GPU's to run with your i7 CPU on a nice motherboard with a bunch of drives, this is a very good choice to provide power.
