Extremely Disappointed in LF customer service
The
game
system
is great, the games educational. I have no regret about this product. BUT...
I am Extremely Disappointed in LF customer serviceOptions
I have just tried to resolve an issue with LF customer service originally via emails back and forth and then as directed via a phone call to offshore customer service with NO authority. (they offered me a 15% discount off my next order. REALLY?!
Learning
Path members get 20% off every day, so what type of deal is 15%! Come on! ) When I asked for the next supervisor or manager, I was told I can write a letter. Nice...
My complaint is that the promotion that many parents may have recvd (
Explorer
, Leaplet pack and S/H for $70) is not nearly as good as the same promotion that includes a game (value $25) in that same package price. This latter deal is supposedly for LF parents that are Learning Path members. WELL I am plainly a Learning path member, have been for a long time and to recvd this new promotion less than 3 weeks after receiving our Explorer is INSULTING. I feel cheated. I am a penny-watching full-time working, loyal
LeapFrog
mom that is asking for a good faith display from LF. Really LF? $25 is apparently too much to say Thanks for buying all our products (34 items listed in our Learning path ranging from toddler toys to Tag books,
Leapster
2 and now Explorer).
Totally upset!

Daughter Loves it, Mama Likes it
We bought this
system
before a LONG 20 hour (one way) road trip. It was not a free trial we paid, and this is my first handheld system for my kids,
leapfrog
or otherwise, But we do own an iphone which my kids are well familiar wuth. My girl is 3 1/2. The system is ok. I found myself comparing it to my iPhone, which it is not, nor did it cost as much as an iPhone. My daughter plays with my phone and her
explorer
and likes them both. The iPhone is easier for her to navigate but she also has more experience with it. She loves creating and having pets! I get frustrated to have to go online to "buy" food and shampoo for them, BUT it also compels her to play more
game
s. I can tell her that she needs to practice a skill to earn money for food for her pet and that helps her to focus on some of the activities in the game that are more educational. Touch screen works well. She does get frustrated in the pet game where she practices letters, it is very touchy and you have to start over if you go out of the practice lines, but even though she is just
learning
to write I am getting "wows" at how well she can do the letters she can write. The trailers have not bothered us (advertising) I don't even think she has watched them. Connecting to leap world online is OK, she likes it, but part of my getting her a system is to get her off of mine, not get her on it more:) so far games can be played with stylus or Dpad which is good cause she is great with finger and stylus but not ready for Dpad. Games have expansion packs you can earn or purchase with points not dollars which is pretty neat. I hope games and leaplets will get updates like on iphone apps, that would greatly increase the value of the product. I have been happy with battery life, we've put at least 10ours on it without swithcing. Know what you get when you purchase to avoid disappointment- i knew it didnt come with a case, or charger, or the camera expansion when I bought. They are potentially great add ons. We are happy with this product and expect to get great use out of it.

ClassyMommy Leapfrog Explorer Review
We received this product before it hit store shelves as a free review unit. And yes we were very impressed. 1 month later my daughter still can't stop playing with it! Here's the skinny and my [...] review. The
Leapfrog
Explorer
product is light years ahead of the impressive
Leapster
2 in many aspects making it an exceptional
learning
tool for kids.
So what are the improvements?
- touch screen capability
-incredible screen clarity - I'd define it as comparable to my HD tv it is so clear and perfect
- video capacity to watch mini shows/movies/previews
-Besides cartridges (priced at $24.99) you can also purchase and download fantastic "leaplet" apps which are also super
game
s for kids. Leaplet apps are priced at 2 for $15.
- This fall there will be a camera that can be purchased and used in conjunction with the Explorer for both Video & Photo purposes - also allowing room for creativity with the pics and video - think putting different backgrounds with your pictures.
We had the opportunity to test out the new Toy Story 3 , Madagascar (emphasis on Math skills!) and Disney Princess cartridge games. Mackenzie, aged 4, loved them all and really enjoyed the touch screen.
We tested several "leaplets" - Kenzie's favorite was an app with a dental theme called Sugar Bugs where the kids needed to clean the teeth with a brush, floss and pick. Each level forced you to clean faster and faster and clean up messier teeth too. Great for enforcing dental health to the kids and the actual game forced Kenzie to think quick which I loved.
Overall, the Explorer is fabulous and I highly recommend it.We had zero complaints and if you are in the market for a Leapster or upgrade, this is the model you need to buy come July 15th.
