Good with some caveats
First let me say this is a really cool looking
mouse
and it is very adjustable. Now I just got the mouse and have not had a lot of time with it so I will follow up with another review once I have used it for awhile.
Pros: Very adjustable. The different grips and weights are easy to use and the tin they come in is good as is the packaging. I like the red leds for the dpi settings and the profile change. I also like that the software is not too complex. Some consider this a negative, but I do not play wow or other games with lots of macros. It has a solid cord and lots of teflon on the bottom. I have no issues with tracking so far on the Razer destructor. My opinion is if you want a high end mouse you also need a high end surface to use it on.
Cons: There is no teflon on the extended pinky rest addition. If you are to rest your pinky too hard it might make the mouse unstable. However, the king for instability is actually the palm rest. If you move the palm rest back part way or as far as it goes you will notice if you put a lot of weight on the palm rest that the mouse will tip slightly backwars and lift the front and middle of the mouse somewhat. This essentially means the moust is a tad too short for palm
gaming
in my opinion. I tend to be a palm gamer. However I have no problem with having the palm rest all the way forward. I also notice the ergonomics are ok, but the palm rest is a little small and the left and right buttons are a little too flat.
Please remember these are initial impressions and I may feel differntly in a week or a month. I cannot comment on the thumb roller or the sniper buttons yet as I have not used them. I can say the sniper button is easy to depress and comfortable. There are no actual performance issues for me, but I do think this mouse cannot quite be all things to all people like they state because it needs to have a little more length or stabiliy from front to back when the palm rest is extended back. I suspect that may be part of the issue people have that causes some tracking problems.

The best gaming mouse available.
I didn't get this from Amazon, due to the long wait for product. I bought from the source. That aside this makes my Logitech G9 hide it's head in shame. This
mouse
is heavy, which for me is a big plus. Very customizable with palm rests, pinkie rests and weights. The thumb side is is adjustable too.
You can have three completely different software setups and activate the one you want to use. The software is well done and easy to use.
The biggest plus is the funky
Cyborg
looks of the thing. Even with the palm rest all the way back (the way I like it), it's still rock solid.
If you're a gamer and you need a new mouse... here it is. If you think you don't need a new mouse then don't try this 'cause you're gonna want it.

Almost great
All the good reviews are right about what's good with this
mouse
so I won't repeat them but the mouse has one serious flaw, it's really awkward to pickup.
Most mice are shaped to overhang your thumb a little so that when you want to pick it up it's easy to do. This mouse slants under that thumb. The end result is that it's not very good for first person shooters because you need to pick up the mouse every once in a while if you want to keep turning in the same direction.
You can mitigate this by using the grippy rubber parts and removing all the weight but then it defeats the purpose of the adjustablity of this mouse in the first place.
Cyborg
needs to change the thumb grip on this mouse before it'll be worth having.

Quality Mouse - Well Worth the Price
I'll be the first to admit, I had some misgivings about this
mouse
when I heard about it initially. It looked strange in the pictures, and I was wondering just how customizable it really was. I decided to take a chance on it despite the $100 price tag,and I'm happy to say I wasn't dissapointed.
Everything about this mouse just blows me away. I've used many different kinds of mice over the years, and not one of them comes close to the quality and customization that this mouse offers. The steel frame overlaid with the smooth shell feels incredibly solid.
On top of the solid construction is the comfort level, reinforced by the customization the mouse offers. The single tool adjustment system is easy to use, so all but those with the largest or smallest hands will find no fault with the layout. You never realize how much your thumb and pinky/ring finger drag until you widen out the thumb tray and install the pinky shelf. I dare say that you and the mouse become one once you've tailored it to your liking.
The on the fly mode change and dpi selector are great. I usually keep the dpi to about two bars for basic tasks, then go up to three or four for more intense
gaming
. The sniping button is particularly useful in first person shooters, as it allows you to steady your aim for those long range shots. It takes a bit to get used to it, but once you customize the settings with the included software (which works flawlessly with Windows 7) it becomes second nature.
The package itself comes with the mouse, instructions, and a tin containing the parts you can add on or replace. In total, you have three pinky shelves, three grips, and a variety of weights to customize the look and feel of the mouse. You can also customize the length of the mouse via the clip that the grip uses to attach itself.
All in all, well worth the $100. If that's too rich for your blood, the Rat 5 is also a good mouse, it just doesn't have the pinky shelf. I personally will never own a mouse without one now...but that's just me.

This R.A.T. wins the mouse race.
I read many reviews and previews of this
mouse
before purchasing. I was expecting the second coming of mice... the Jesus Mouse if you will, if the reviews were any indications.
Well... it's not the Jesus Mouse. That's not to say this is a bad mouse - it's not. It is probably the best mouse I have used - and I've used a lot of mice. I'm a heavy gamer, primarily FPS games - and most mice don't stack up. I had been using the Logitech MX and G series mice for the past few years because there just wasn't anything better on the market. I did NOT like the G9, so I had been using the G5 for the past year with an MX 518 as backup.
To start off with, the R.A.T. 7 felt very much like the Logitech G9 in my hands. I have larger hands (I am 6' 2"), so most mice feel small in my hands, including the G9 - the R.A.T. 7 also feels small - the extra high palm rest helps a little, but there's still a lot of room around my hand - I can't really rest my hand anywhere on this mouse comfortably - but then again I can't do that on any mouse that I've found. I was initially put off by the G9 feel, but as I used the mouse more, it grew on me. The movement is smooth and fluid, which is important and buttons have the right amount of resistance and feedback (also very important). The scroll wheel is a little off position, perhaps a bit too far forward and the mouse buttons too wide for optimal fast weapon changes, but it is manageable.
Because most mice are too small, I tend to have a more claw style grip when
gaming
. Almost a hybrid claw/palm position with my hand. This leads to the biggest flaw in this mouse, since there's not really any way to adjust the button placement for the thumb - the forward and back buttons are hard to reach if you position your thumb optimally for the sniper button. The back button is WAYYYY behind the thumb knuckle, forcing you to either move your thumb to hit the back button or really flatten your thumb to hit the back button, possibly accidentally activating the forward button. This is really my biggest complaint with the mouse - those two buttons need to be moved forward and should be about 20% smaller (or at least the forward button should be).
So, with the negatives of this mouse out of the way, the good things about this mouse outweigh the bad several times over.
The pivoting thumb board is probably the most awesome thing about this mouse - I just wish it pivoted a bit more. However, with it at the max pivot, the thumb position is the best of all mice I've ever used - it's not perfect, but better than any other.
The mode button, activated with your index finger 1st knuckle is a bit awkwardly placed, but does prevent you from hitting it accidentally, and mode lighting/color is on both sides of the ridge, allowing you to know which mode you're in without craning your head.
The adjustable palm rest is great - it's not high enough for me, but I suspect for most people with smaller hands it will be excellent.
The pinky shelf is pretty useless to me - I tried using it - I hadn't realized how much I was dragging my pinky before I had the shelf, but after using the shelf, I realized that even though I was dragging my pinky, I used it extensively for precise positioning of the mouse... so off the shelf went as it was ultimately hampering precision. (It also cramped my pinky)
The laser is adequately precise - and the fact that there are 5 mode settings (as opposed to Logitechs 3) is really nice for cranking up/down the DPI. Though I would like to see a mouse that lets you set an arbitrary number of DPI settings. The DPI adjustment button is awkward to hit in tense situations, but the sniper button largely eliminates the need to do this, so it's not really an issue. I would also like to see some sort of detent on the UP click of the button, since it's hard to know where the button ends and the scroll wheel begins; with the detent on the down position, you know where to hit the button. I have found myself accidentally clicking the MOUSE3 instead of the DPI UP button.
I've not really found a use for the scrolling thumbwheel... but it's nice and solid and looks like it could have some utility - I just haven't found what that might be yet.
The integrated tool is nice for adjustments and the weight system seems nice, but the mouse is fine weight wise for me without any weights in it.
Overall, this is an evolution in gaming mice, not a revolution as reviews were making it out to be. Is it a $100 mouse? Maybe... if you game a lot, it's probably worth it. It's definitely the best mouse I've used and looks way cool to boot. It's not the Jesus Mouse, though, which is somewhat disappointing. But I am pleased enough with it to keep it.
