Hardware exceeds software and bandwith capacity

I video conference with family members away at university. I use Windows. I have a Intel Ci7, Windows 7 computer with an HD display.

This is a webcam upgrade for me. I have had a firewire webcam, used the Orangeware webcam driver with my DV camera, and had 2 prior Logitech USB webcams. I can only say WOW, this camera produces an amazing image.

The webcam is not Skype certified. With it, Skype only broadcasts at medium resolution. My family members use netbooks with wireless g connections at university. I have read about a Skype hack to broadcast in full HD. However, that would exceed the bandwith of wireless g. Even in medium quality, the image as seen on the netbook is superb. However, wireless g bandwith is still inadequate, causing Skype sessions to close regularly. This rules out Skype.

We next tried Windows Live Messenger to conference. This was more successful. However, my image on this end was pixelated and on the laptop, jerky.

Bottom line, using this camera for video conferencing over wireless g to a netbook is marginal, at best.

Excellent/Superb

I was a little nervous getting a digital camera. It's a high-quality camera and a great product. The picture quality is excellent and the sound quality is average. It's my first camcorder of any type and I love the crystal clear 1080P. The only thing I hate about it is actually needing to shave because the picture quality is so good.

Wow

Webcams have come a long way. This webcam is fantastic and dare I say it better than the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema which I also own and love. Although I still like the shape of the microsoft camcorder better.

This is not your average cheapie webcam, it's high quality construction with two microphones, a nice lens and a flexible mount that you can use to mount this to a monitor or lay on the desk.

I has two half moons on each side that light up a blue color to show you when the webcam is turned on.

The software package that comes with the camera is wonderful too, easy to connect to skype or to upload video to YouTube.

Overall, if you review products or do minor commentary online this webcam will serve you well. It's sweetspot will be video conferencing.

Just bear in mind you do need a core2 duo 2.4 ghz processor to really take maximum use of the tool.

Overall, this has been the webcam that has had me come around to using cams at all. Before, the quality of video was too low and the construction was poor.

This webcam is different, very high quality construction and very high quality images, stereo microphones AND good software to boot.

motion capture dies after 27x snapshots

If you are wanting a nannycam, that is motion sensitive, then don't buy this one.

The software dies after 27X captures, it only captures video while it 'detects moment'.

Nice but if someone walks in your room, sits down, you can not see the 'small' motion. E.g. moments of hands at a small distance.

In the past, I would tell other software to record for a minimum of 20 minutes to make sure I capture the scene correctly, this software does not.

What you end up with is 27X movies that last 10 seconds or so.

So I give it a lousy software award of 2 while the camera is a good 7.5.

Last, since this is a nanny cam for me, the darn blue 'record' lights (two lights, each 1 inch long) are pretty hard to hide.

I caught 10 seconds of 'bad stuff' on the cam, because the 'big motion' ended!

Top dollar for top quality

I have used several Logitech webcams in the past (including the orbit) and this one is by far the best (and costliest). The setup was extremely painless and quick, I was up and running in no time. I bought this to video chat with my gf while I'm away (using Google talk and Logitech Vid) and she says that the video quality is a lot better. However, I will mention that when I asked if it was 720p she said no and that maybe it was like 480ish? which is similar to a good HD broadcast on TV. I'm not sure if you can force 720p because I haven't found any option for video output quality. That being said it serves its purpose better than the average webcam.

In the end I wouldn't necessarily say that this is a must have/must buy item, but that it was worth purchasing if you do webcam often. The only gripe I have is that it didn't come with a carrying case or a small pouch to put it in.

The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910 is HD in every way. Record at Full HD 1080p or make a video call in HD 720p on most major IMs and Logitech Vid HD.
