Handy little tool

I bought this device for one specific job. I have a straightening iron that doesn't have an auto off function, and I often forget to unplug it, leaving it burning hot for hours at at time. The risk of burning my house down is too great for me to ignore, so I looked for a timer device on a plug. This fits the bill perfectly. It's a simple device, a slider switch on the side decides the on time between 30min\3 hours\6 hours, and an on switch to turn it well, on :).

This device does what it advertised well, and is reasonably priced.

My only complaint is that there isn't a 15min option.

No stop button!

This product is a great idea. I have a floor fan that I always forget to turn off and this little device will automatically turn the fan off after 3 hours. Great! The problem is that there is no stop button. I would like this device to be my one control point. For instance, I press the device's start button. Then, within 3 hours (prior to automatic outlet shutoff), I want to leave the room and actually remember to turn the fan off. Since I can't turn off the outlet from the Belkin timer, I need to turn it off at the fan. Then the next time I turn on the fan, I need to press the Belkin timer start button as well as the fan on button since I previously turned the fan off. It's sort of increasing work when I bought it to make life simpler. Here is my recommendation for Belkin - one button press for start, and double tab for stop.

Great product!

My battery powered drills always need recharging and I was concerned about leaving them on the charger until I needed them. I've heard they could cause a fire if they get too hot. This product allows the tools to be charged but removes the danger. I purchased 4 outlets and also use them for our cell phones. You can keep your chargers plugged in but they do not draw electricity until you turn them on. The best thing is the time can be easily adjusted to 30 min, 3 hours or 6 hours. I am very pleased! The product is made very well, not shoddy.

HELPS PREVENT OVERCHARGING

One of my gripes has always been watching my gadgets' rechargeable batteries weaken over time due to the number of times they have been charged. Do you every leave your electronics recharging overnight or unattended? This item can help with its variable timer.

The Conserve Socket has 3 time settings, after which it shuts off and prevents electricity from flowing into your appliance/gadget.

The 3 settings are:

- 30 Minutes (Recommended by the instructions for hot coil items, such as hair straighteners, cloths irons, soldering irons, toaster ovens, coffee makers, and fans).

- 3 Hours (Recommended by the instructions for Mobile Electronic Chargers, such as cell phone, MP3 players, digital cameras)

- 6 Hours (Recommended by the instructions for Large Cordless Chargers, such as for handheld vacuum cleaners, cordless drills).

For a laptop, you would probably want it sometimes set at 3 hours and sometimes for 6 hours, depending on the amount of power you have remaining, whether you're simultaneously using, etc.

OTHER USES

Some other uses I can think of is that this would be helpful for are elderly or forgetful people. The timer can prevent accidents by limiting the time that something is turned on.

A mean use of this is to limit the amount of time your kids watch TV or or play video games. (Of course your kids would have to rather young to not know that you've connected their TV to a Conserve Socket).

NOTES

According to the instructions, it works with both outlets as well as surge protectors, which I assume are power strips with surge protection.
