GoPro Helmet Hero HD

Read all the reviews online and was a little skeptical of the quality of video this unit would take. Purchased it anyway and was blown away by the quality of video. Camera is simple to use, but pay close attention to the screen when starting the camera up. While the unit is on the helmet mount it can have the default settings changed and it may not be taking the video you want. My camera default was changed and it took 890 pictures before I realized what was going on. I missed the video but had lots of great photos that I really have no use for, even though it does take great still photos also. I installed a 16GB card which is more memory than the unit will shoot with a full battery charge on 960. I would recommend if you are planning on shooting lots of video without a place to charge, buy the extra battery. Its cheap and great insurance that you won't miss that shot. Sound quality is muted with the waterproof case but I don't plan on using the audio on motorcycle clips anyway. Buy and Enjoy!

For Dirtbikes, works great !

I had another video camera and the video did not relate speed or depth as well.
This camera works very well for Dirtbikes. It would be the same on quads or mountain bikes.
I does really capture what you see when you ride and it translates well to the TV.
I used Video mode #4 1280x960 4:3 , this gave the most realistic video. You end up seeing
more of the terrain directly below and in front of you as well as plenty of sky and woods
to the left and right sides. Sound is really good, I use the open back door with cutaways.

Shortcomings: menu is a little weird, get to know how to operate it at home.
If you hold a button just a little too long it will put you in another mode
or turn off. Once you get used to it, it's easy to operate on a ride.
Battery Charging, you have to charge the batteries with the camera.
External chargers were available but not as I write.
If you are going on say a 3 or 4 day adventure, being out all day it would be nice to
put all your batteries on external chargers and get to sleep. Hopefully they will
sell an external charger soon.
Low light conditions, it's fine with cloudy overcast but
gets a little too dark in very shaded areas, not the greatest in low light but no major gripe.
Video Editing, the video quality is amazing if you
play the raw video's on a computer or other device that can read the card/files directly.
Many of us want to edit out the junk, It would be nice if they offered even the most
basic 2 track Video editing app, with the cam or as an option. No effects,Just trim, splice,
fade,crossfade,insert text,add soundtrack... something very basic would be nice that would
allow editing the video while keep the original format. You lose a little quality editing it
with most prog's and trying out many diff progs takes forever. Here's some Gopro footage.
Youtube degrades the quality greatly but you get the idea..... can copy/paste links below into browser.

i love this camera, have been wanting one since every sporting event (especially racing) has these perspective view cameras. researching the gopro.com website and seeing sample videos just made me want one even more. the plastic lens on the plastic housing scratches pretty easy but doesn't horribly affect the image. sound while in the plastic waterproof housing is poor but with the non-waterproof housing, sound quality is really good. I use mine mainly for mountain biking but have also used for underwater filming/pictures of my kid. i chose to get this instead of one of those waterproof digital cameras. not having a viewfinder kinda sucks but since the lens is pretty wide angle you can approximate and get a good shot
