Absolutely the best bang for your buck!

I bought this cam for the sole purpose of playing paintball. Even on Contour's website they wouldn't guarantee it's use for paintball but I can assure you through....field testing....that this has taken several shots from various angles as well as to the lens. As long as you are shooting 280 FPS at a regulated field you should have no problem. I have a paintball team that plays scenario and our sponsors rarely get a chance to see what we do out in thew woods. This is a perfect tool to bring the action home. I am always getting complimens on the picture quality. There are several accessories that are available for it but for the most part it is all set to use out of the box other than charging it! I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!!!

Great Picture Quality and Super easy to use. Worth the Money!

The camera was so much easier to use than expected. I love the lazers that guide you to make sure the camera is level, it makes it so easy to know you are getting the shot you want. Having the rotatable camera lens is such a good feature.

I have used it both mountain biking and snowboarding, and both have been great applications. I have a goggle strap mount for snowboarding, and a helmet mount for biking. The camera is great because it is so small, i forget it is there. And i like how they made the on/off slider big enough to handle with gloves on- especially when i am snowboarding, it is easy to control when i want the camera on or off. And i like how i can hear the camera beep at me when it has turned on/off because when i am flying down the mountain either on a bike or board, it can be windy, and it helps to know the camera is on/off like i expect it to be.

But the picture is the best part. I did not expect to have it be as clear and colorful as it was. It came out better than my HD camcorder (in my opinion). My friends couldn't believe the shots i got when i was showing them the highlights of my whistler trip. And i love how all the files are on a Micro SD card. It is so simple to use and easy to import for editing. I've edited a few trips and they all came like I used a special HD camera. I just love how the Contour shoots!

The Camera was worth the money. I would recommend it to anyone!

Splendid Camera for the Price

I bought my camera in May of 2009 and used it for over a year attached to a motorcycle. For the price, the video quality was excellent in bright daylight, in shade during bright daylight, and at dusk. I did not try it at night. This camera was used under very punishing conditions, high heat (mounted near the engine of a high performance motorcycle with over 1000 cc displacement), high speed jolting, and high direct speed (up to 130 MPH). It always performed flawlessly. It's ease of use--the easy-to-access on/off switch--was particularly important as I had to turn it on and off while I was wearing leather gloves and managing the motorcycle at speed.

Although the software for download is not really the best, once you figure out which format you want to use, it's simple to use. Whether in HD or regular speed, the image quality is excellent. Battery life was never an issue for me and I believe I kept it going for at least 2 hours at a time without failure.

I dropped it several times but it had no effect on performance afterwards. I did cause a problem otherwise with the machine myself, but I was able to get help from the VholdR tech people via e-mail. They were incredibly responsive, polite, fast, and helpful. I contacted them on several questions and issues and every time they were fantastic. They absolutely get an "A" for quality customer service. My most recent contact was in August 2010 and they were fast and thorough.

I cannot speak to the failures others say they experienced. All I can say is that with over a year of hard duty on mine, it never failed and always produced quality videos. My only complaint is that wind does affect the microphone. Once you exceed 30 MPH, the wind noise predominates the audio. However if wind noise is not an issue for you, the audio quality is actually quite good. It will easily pick up someone talking in a normal tone at 30 feet away.

I thought so highly of this camera that I just bought a second one (August 2010) because my son often wants to use it. So far, that one is just as good as the one I got in 2009. Given the prices and the configurations of the nearest competitors, I think VholdR is the best for the price, and the best even for a higher price given its robust durability and ease of use.

Very good camera, not dust proof, buy extra-case.

To stay short:
Excellent overall camera, great great video quality, the sound is just fine, considering all the wind at the speed I ride.
I will buy another one soon for my brother, maybe the HD GPS one, so definitely happy with the purchase. It is not that shaky considering the off road I do, actually very good movie in the raw form and you can add more stabilization editing the video with software on the computer-not included. The included software only does basic cuts, that's all.

MAKE SURE you buy the waterproof enclosure. Without it the camera will allow dust between the lens and the clear glass protecting the lens from the front. No big deal, but surely a small inconvenient (considering I didn't ride in a heavy dust, just the regular off road dust that comes from the motorcycle in front. Never tried it in rain, I just got the waterproof case, looks very good and sturdy. And if you somehow fall and hit the camera to the ground it seems the extra case will break, leaving the camera all right. My theory, after seeing the design of the case, good case.

Also happy you can set up the bit-rate of the recording, you can make it smaller/bigger, not only by changing resolution, but also setting up the bit rate. The files are MOV files, really easy to edit with my MAC/iMovie.
