The Writer20 reviews

Kalmbach Publ Co

Great resource for writers
I've learned a lot from the great examples and advice that Writer magazine gives -- it also encourages all writers, beginners and advanced, to "write on!" A worthy and invaluable investment.

The New Yorker (1-year)105 reviews

Conde' Nast Publications

New Yorker - Last Great Print Magazine
The New Yorker is the greatest magazine around. Genuinely compelling, long, and introspective articles, and real, original, investigative reporting. Articles by thinkers such as Malcom Gladwell on a regular basis. They even have well designed covers, every week. I can't say enough good things about the New Yorker. For those living in NYC, replete listings of local events and entertainment, as ...

Poets & Writers Magazine13 reviews

Poets & Writers Inc

Favorite magazine for writers
I love this magazine and have subscribed to it for many years now. The featured interview is generally with an author that I know (and admire), but I am also introduced to lesser-known writers in each issue. I also enjoy the interviews with agents/publishers. After reading each issue I feel smarter...how many magazines can you honestly say that about?

Writer's Digest (1-year)38 reviews

F&W Publications

Great magazine for writers
This is a wonderful magazine. It has advice for writers of both fiction and non-fiction, articles on how to improve your writing, tips on publishing, and other insight into the world of writing.

Harper's Magazine56 reviews

Harper's Magazine

America's last real Magazine
I'm a conservative (but lately more of a libertarian) but Harper's is my favorite magazine. It has honest political commentary, hard to find these days, that I don't always agree with but concede that the arguments are often compelling. The short stories are usually great, and the book reviews better than most. A favorite feature is "Findings" a short list of recent and bizarre scientific ...

The Atlantic14 reviews

The Atlantic

Excepcionalmente buena

Bookmarks41 reviews

Phillips & Nelson Media Inc

Recomended Reading
Each issue is Christmas. I can't wait to open it up and see what is inside. It takes weeks to get through each issue and I bookmark several selections to buy. I have read books that happenstance might not have offered. Different genres, authors and interesting titles. This month I am reading Factory Girls and I am experiencing another world. I have lent my issues to friends and they all end ...

Mother Jones31 reviews

Foundation for National Progress

Order it directly from Mother Jones!
Great publication, 5 stars. My only comment is this: As is the case with other magazine subscriptions sold here at Amazon, it's cheaper to just order the magazine from the publisher's website. For example, as of yesterday (Dec. 22) the cost is $15/year through Amazon, but visit the Mother Jones website and it costs only $10. Shop around! :)

The Nation11 reviews

Nation

OUR FINEST NATIONAL MAGAZINE STILL IN PRINT, EVER
I have been a The Nation reader for at least thirty years, borrowing my father's issue from before the dark days of Reagan/Bush the First, and grateful for this brave little light shining in the darkness of debt and of war ever since, a light which shines forth in the darkness, which the darkness cannot comprehend. But, well, what immediately always fascinated me was the impossible Crossword ...

London Review of Books8 reviews

Pro Circ

It's Not For Everyone
Those arriving at this Amazon page doubtless have some interest in books. In reading the reviews I note some disappointment with the contents of the London Review. Maybe if I provide a brief summary of one issue you can decide whether or not this is the book mazazine for you. About fifty percent of the contributors to a current issue are PhD academics. Here is a sampling of the articles in ...

Analog Science Fiction & Fact10 reviews

Penny Press

Hard Science SF
Analog brings a dependable collection of hard-science fiction stories, novellas, and frequently, a serialized novel. Almost all of them are worth reading; I'm having trouble thinking of an Analog story that made me give up before reaching the end. While its sister publication Asimov's tends more to the social-SF or more literary forms, Analog sticks to a formula of hard-SF with some recurring ...

New York Times Book Review11 reviews

New York Times

"Best Gift Ever"
I buy this for my husband each year for his birthday. He claims it's the best birthday gift he receives, and devours each issue as it comes to our mailbox. Very addictive -- if you love books!

Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine12 reviews

Penny Press

Hitchcock is more 'mysterious'
When it comes the the unusual, the more literary and the suspenseful, it's Hitchcock for me! The magazine allows for stories with the supernatural - and that tends to keep the reader guessing until the end, as opposed to the typical cop/detective/sleuth tales in EQ. I love the often-moody atmosphere and the scene-building in Hitchcock.

Utne22 reviews

Ogden Publications, Inc.

Automatic renewal magazine
I started reading the magazine in college. Utne was the first magazine I ever really enjoyed reading, I suddenly "got it". I would really like to subscribe to this magazine but, they have an automatic renewal policy, and I am personally against anyone taking my money without permission. I also don't subscribe to anything by Rodale Publishing for this reason; Men's Health, Fitness, Prevention, etc.

Script Magazine6 reviews

Script Magazine

A magazine you will actually READ!
With so many options out there for any field, it is hard to determine which magazines to choose for research, ideas, and so forth. As a filmmaker, we subscribe to a few for our industry. We've only received two issues so far, as a new subscriber, and are so happy to have finally gotten a magazine with CONTENT. I am so sick of advertisements filling 90% of the pages of most magazines, and with ...

FILMMAKER: The Magazine Of Independent Film1 review

FILMMAKER, A Joint Venture

The Art of Reviewing Art
I love this magazine!!! As if it isn't hard enough to find anyone out there with a good appreciation of independent film (and by appreciation, I also mean knowledge), but then you have to deal with all these film nerds who think that if it wasn't done on a shoestring budget by a no-name director, it must be bad. FILMMAKER does an excellent job of giving an overview of the world of independent ...

The Strand20 reviews

Strand Magazine

One Stop Shopping for the latest in Mysteries
The Strand is an excellent resource for the latest in the mystery genre. Book reviews, author short stories, and interviews are the highligts for me. I even enjoy the advertisments because they focus on the latest mysteries hitting the shelves. The only disappointment is that it is only published four times a year - so sad!!!!

New York Review Of Books12 reviews

New York Review of Books

Let's get NYROB on Kindle
New York Review of Books is the best publication in the United States for serious readers. But as any of us who have them stacked up for years know they we need to get it on Kindle. What's the delay?

Asimovs Science Fiction12 reviews

Penny Press

Some of the best science fiction shorts out there
Regular readers of my reviews are probably getting sick of me mentioning Kage Baker, but I have to credit her for getting me to try a lot of things that I wouldn't normally try if she hadn't been a part of them. Asimov's Science Fiction magazine is another time where this is the case. While I have bought Fantasy & Science Fiction magazine every month for a while now, I would also check ...
