Ultimate Broadway II: The Very Best of Broadway Now

Moderate Quality
I believe that the show selection for this CD was excellent. However the song selection and song order were not. Why pick "Your Daddy's Son" from Ragtime when you can have the amazing and fantastic "Prologue" from the same show. Also I believe that a mistake was made by slecting "I Don Quixote" from Man of La Mancha instead of the much more listenable "Impossible Dream." Also the overture from ...

Sweeney Todd a musical Thriller!
This Sweeney Todd Broadway Cast live from at the New York Philharmonic is excellent! I have the dvd of this at home. I'm a little upset that they replaced three people which are Johanna, Beggar Woman and Judge Turpin. I'm happy they kept George Hearn becuase he's my favorite Sweeney. We'll now I'm confuessed because I just saw this show in New York city with Michael Cerveris. Davis Gains as ...

Lose That Long Face!
When I first got this album, way back in 2002, I wasn't crazy about it. Composer-wise, it didn't focus on bright young things -- Guettel et al. -- like Audra's previous efforts. The period productions seemed to get in the way of this singer's full spontaneity. But I heard it again this morning (Summer 2005, or The Year of Our Harold 100) and it knocked me out!! What great songs, what ...

Bernstein's New York, it's a wonderful town!
And speaking of "Wonderful Town," it's so nice to hear music from this least appreciated of Bernstein's musicals. "What a Waste," "A Quiet Girl" and Audra McDonald's enchanting "A Little Bit in Love" have never sounded better. Donna Murphy burns the house down with the torchy "Ain't Got No Tears Left," and has fun with Patinkin and Blazer on the raucous "Ya Got Me." "One Hand, One Heart" sung ...

Best musical ever!
We first saw Ragtime 10 years ago on Broadway and were absolutely knocked out by it. The sets, voices and music just wonderful - we actually wore out our original disc and now have purchased this replacement. So happy to have it again!

A Master Production of a Masterpiece
CAROUSEL is the only R&H musical that I completely embrace, along with OKLAHOMA, but I consider CAROUSEL to be a stronger show, not just musically, but in its narritive and character development as well. That said, I love listening to this recording! Audra McDonald's Carrie is a revelation, and her rendition of "Mr. Snow" is one of the highlights of the show, along with "Carousel Waltz," "What's ...

A joyful, sexy sound, with look and spirit to match
I've owned this CD for so long and had to stop listening to it when a very jealous girlfriend of mine was around that I forgot to share with others how good it is. Audra McDonald is already a legendary figure on Broadway with four Tony awards, exemplifying the complete package of drama and artistry she is on stage. Yet that voice, which could just as easily have taken her to the Met as it did ...

Simply beautiful
I was not expecting much out of this recording; however, it has impressed me a lot. Based on "The Rainmaker", which became a popular movie with Katharine Hepbun and Burt Lancaster (known in Chile as "EL Farsante"), this musical summarizes the whole story and adds wonderful music and lyrics. However, what impressed me the most is the voice of the main characters, specially Audra McDonald. She's ...

Excellent recording
This is simply one of the best renditions of Gershwin yet recorded. Exciting, and technically flawless, MTT has again proven his skill and mastery at conducting. Finally, the San Francisco Symphony has joined the ranks of the worlds other great orchestras. If you like Gershwin, get this recroding before any other!

Breathtaking
I am a musician at heart (critical and difficult to please, but very moved by good music) and this is my absolute favorite christmas album. The arrangements are incredible and the performances will blow you away. This is a must-have for those who truly appreciate music and even those who just love Christmas music (who doesn't?). I'm lucky enough to live in Salt Lake where I can see them ...

When Lord, when will Audra McDonald make her foray into opera?
She could sing the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List and I'd pay full price.

Good live recording of hidden gems
This is a good recording of two one-act operas by William Schuman. The Mighty Casey is probably the more known, popular one, but I believe this is the only complete recording available. A Question of Taste may not be as exciting, but it has a lot of moments that makes you gasp. Juilliard Opera Theatre seems to be doing a fine job in this live recording - soloists are solid across the board, ...

Incredible
This is an incredible CD, from the sparkling orchestrations which are chamber but in the way they are mixed everything dances out at you, to the vocal interpretations which are so innovative for a recording of this type...settings of poetry but sung by regular, albeit, extraordinary regular people (except people like Dawn Upshaw and Audra McDonald who have already established themselves as major ...

Great song choice again
I love Audra McDonald, especially her debut album, Way Back to Paradise. For a while I felt like her song choices have been not up to par with that first album, but she is back to picking unique, different songs for Build a Bridge. If you like hearing something other than the same old theater songs again and again, this is a great one to pick up.

Possibly the best release from PS Classics ever
Before the Broadway Jule Styne (think Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Bells are Ringing, Gypsy among his most sucessful shows),he toiled in Hollywood for years during the late 30's and 40's. Some of his classic movie songs are well known such as I Don't Want to Walk without You and I'll Walk Alone. Others are not so well known. When I was plowing through the 6 disc Sinatra in Hollywood set, I was ...

I love Adam Guettel
This is an amazing work of emotional, passionate, and very creative music. Its facinating melodies are very complex and its themes are powerful. This is a masterpiece of artful composition, but it is not a CD for those with frivolous tastes. It is very beautiful and involved music so if you dwell on the music of Hairspray or Grease, this is definately not an item for you, but if you really ...

Dreamgirls in Concert (2001 Concert Cast) I am extremely happy with my recent purchase, of the above CD. And with its (Amazon's) reseller, spike706, and its Handler Joe's performance, in getting me the Product (Dreamgirls in Concert (2001 Concert Cast), in a timely and undmaged state/matter.
