Bad Brains
How can you describe Bad Brains? How can you describe the first time you listened to Bad Brains? First off you are blown away by tracks like Supertouch and Sailin' On then the next minute you get hit with some pure reggae tracks like The Meek and I! You are left thinking to yourself "What the ****!" Bad Brains are a band like no other and this is one of their best albums, no matter what ...

Still classic Bad Brains
Yeh this came out in the whole 'crossover' period of the late 80s when bands like Cro Mags, Suicidal Tendencies, Gang Green and DRI (at least DRI made a good attempt at it) crossed over into a more metal sound. First I was a little worried that this may be just another 3rd rate crossover album but nope, this is still Bad Brains doing what they do best, pushing the boundries of music to the ...

Bad Brains ***** For fans of hardcore punk it doesn't get much better then Bad Brains self-titled debut album. It's loud, fast, in your face, unapologetic, angry and yet positive all at the same time. Bad Brains was really THE hardcore band, they were the ones that all other punk bands were looking up to at the time, the ones that classic bands like Minor Threat, Black Flag, TSOL, and ...

love it
I don't know how I missed this one when it was first released! I had just figured it was the newer line-up who brought us "Rise". I must not have looked very close. This album really rocks... but not in the Bad Brains punk way--more like Stooges... call it pre-punk. Some of the arrangements here almost sound like another band covering Bad Brains. Not that different, but it's really odd for ...

Someone finally does something right.
This collection is exactly what it promises on the front sticker: a "Definitive" collection. It shows you every side of the Brains, from their blistering hardcore awesomeness to their forays into grotesque sounding metal (not that the metal songs are of low quality, but man is that some ugly, evil riffing on "Voyage To Infinity" and "Soul Craft"), and, of course, some Reggae songs at the end. ...

alternative reggae
let me begin by saying i am not a thrash fan. the early bad brains is not for me. i came to know bad brains as HR when i saw them on stage playing reggae. let me also say that i am a musician for Jah Kings reggae out of michigan. that said, this album is one of my favorites. "rights of a child", "overs the waters", and "to the heavens" are conscious reggae classics at par with any artist. it ...

Tasty dub reggae with smatterings of punk
If you like reggae, dub reggae in particular, BUY THIS CD. I was turned onto this by a friend and have since turned on many other friends to it as well. Each time I try to make them listen for a while and guess who it is. The jaws always hit the floor when I tell them it's Bad Brains. Just goes to show that these guys can hit any genre out the ballpark. The production quality is very very ...

The Bad Brains at full throttle
The Bad Brains: four rastas, ex-jazz-fusion musicians, turned into one of the most powerful and creative punk bands of all time. Some claim that they were the inventors of the Hardcore genre. This live album captures the Brains at what they did best, play mind-blowing shows. Being masters at both light-speed hardcore riffage and playing chilled out reggae and dub. This album combines both ...

cannot be imitated
This album to me is the first album I have heard to have the sharp riffs and style of hardcore. The songs still stand out in my mind after not listening to the album for some time and that is my criteria for a great album. Secret 77 has a smooth rhyming tempo on guitars followed with sharp drumming and same goes for sacred love where the drums are very sharp on double beat with heavy guitar ...

Not a disappointment...Great album!
I first heard the Bad Brains years ago in the metal/punk "crossover" years, and "I against I" was a favorite. Over 20 years later, the Bad Brains are even more powerful than ever, and they are still capable of delivering a heavy slammer like this, amazing! I really enjoy the reggae tunes also, and "Build A Nation" has a great hardcore edge, still with the metal influence. Most of the newer bands ...

Same Album
Attitude is the same album as Bad Brains. Minus the bonus track. These are the performances that are on Bad Brains. I'm not sure if the mastering is the same though--I haven't listened to both together.

Perfection, just like comparing Picasso to Leonardo
Like most of the reviewers before me, we admit that this is not the best Bad Brains Live CD if you only consider the audience size and participation, production, etc. But when you listen to the raw energy of the band, the individual and combined musical performances by each member(much better than the "Youth are getting restless")and the song selections...you will understand and experience the ...

Bad Brains.
Nothing else needs to be said--and what can be said that hasn't been said already? This band took hardcore and made it somehow better. The reggae-type tracks are smooth and relaxing, whereas the harder and faster tracks blow you away, making you notice how ahead of their time that they were. The first good thing that Victory records has put out.

If you haven't seen them live....
While Spirit Electricity is not the length of The Youth Are Getting Restless, the live intensity of Bad Brains is there. Any dub by H.R. is worth hearing, and while the studio recordings are great, they are nowhere near the sheer power contained in a live Bad Brains show. Who knows? This may be the only way to hear them live...

Actually, 4 and 1/2 stars. Keep an open mind - not your typical Bad Brains here
Lots of mixed reviews for this album from the Bad Brains faithful, I think mostly because HR and his roaring voice is absent from this more mainstream production, and the fact that the usual hard/speedcore stlye has been toned - but not watered - down, into more of the mid-90's funk/metal/soul/ska sound -- a la Fishbone at their heaviest, or 24-7 Spyz at their funkiest (speaking of which, the ...

bootleg quality sound on some tracks
the energy is there but this seems like a fan only release...on the hardcore songs the sound quality is what you would expect from recordings from 1982 and who gets the bad brains for teh reggae tracks (theyre good but not great), the DVD is probably a much better release to get so you can get the intensity of the live show but unless youre a fan Id avoid this live disc
