Dina Washington's Finest Hour8 reviews
Dinah Washington

Polygram Records, 2000

What a Diff'frence a Seer Makes..... ;)
Well folks, I finally made it home alive. I went out to the mall today dressed in my best holiday Seer's clothing. Red thermalite with white powder trim. Figured I'd take advantage of last minute deals. But people kept pushing me out of the way so, exhausted, I went to sit down at the expresso shop. Before I knew it, children from the ages between 2 to 7 were alternately thrown on my lap and I ...

The Bridges Of Madison County: Music From The Motion Picture33 reviews
Dinah Washington, Johnny Hartman, ...

Warner Bros / Wea, 1995

Soothing jazz vibes!
A great soundtrack from a equally great movie..........all the selections were a perfect match for this film. I didn't even know of Johnny Hartman (I'm a 60's Boomer), but now realize what a superb voice and arrangements. This CD is excellent for a quiet evening, and possibly a candlelit dinner, with wine!! Any woman, spouse or friend will enjoy listening to this!

I Get A Kick Out Of You: Cole Porter Songbook Vol. 24 reviews
Cole Porter

Polygram Records, 1991

Cole Porter's the top !!!
I Get A Kick Out Of You: Cole Porter Songbook Vol. 2 has another seventeen wonderful hits and tunes by the great Cole Porter. The sound quality is wonderful; and the artwork is very nicely done. Louis Armstrong starts things off right with a sublime rendition of "I Get A Kick Out Of You;" this somewhat jazzy arrangement shines like silver and gold--and how's about that piano arrangement? ...

Back to Blues (Ain't Nothin But a Woman Cryin For)9 reviews
Dinah Washington

Blue Note Records, 1997

The Blues ain't nothin' but
A woman cryin' for her man. So begins Dinah Washington's "Back to the Blues" a wonderful album from a performer of great talent who died too young. When I was a kid my father, a studio musician, would let me tag along with him when he had a recording date. One year, when I was about 9, he took me along to a session. We got there and waited, and waited. The studio musicians were sitting ...

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: Best of Dinah Washington
They always forget the great ladies of song. This is by far one of the best cd's I have purchased in a long time.

Swingin Miss D20 reviews
Dinah Washington

Polygram Records, 1998

Dinah sings,"Q" swings
Untill I heard "Relax Max" on a commercial I didn't know this CD existed. Being a fan of both Dinah and "Q" Quincy Jones to non jazz fans I had to buy it. I'm glad I did, it has a lot of great music on it.

Essential - Great Songs12 reviews
Dinah Washington

Polygram Records, 1992

Dinah, you've got what it takes !!!
The Essential Dinah Washington: The Great Songs has a wonderful collection of excellent songs performed by the immortal Dinah Washington. Dinah doesn't get the recognition she deserves; but hopefully as her CDs continue to sell this will change. The artwork is very good; and the sound quality is excellent. "I Get A Kick Out Of You" starts the CD with Dinah singing her heart out; her excellent ...

Dinah Jams16 reviews
Dinah Washington

Polygram Records, 1990

Nothin' Could Be Finah Than Dinah
I admit to a very spotty interest in jazz over my life time and while I have always loved those 1940's swing bands, like that of Benny Goodman, it was only with the celebration of the centennial of Duke Ellington's birth in 1999 that I got a little more serious about this genre. Ken Burns' "Jazz" series for PBS gave me another boost. Still and all there are huge gaps in my knowledge and ...

You've Got What It Takes6 reviews
Brook & Dinah Washington Benton

Golden Stars, 2006

A Classic Best
Mellow, romantic, and charming are just a few words I will use to describe this 3-CD pak. I really enjoy the old tunes and so proud to have found the music. If you enjoy real music and a dynamic duo singing together as well as solo, you are definitely in for a treat.

Two of Us13 reviews
Dinah Washington, Brook Benton

Polygram Records, 1995

Dinah & Brook: A 5 star pair
It's too bad that Dinah and Brook only cut 4 numbers as a duet. Through the years, I've often wondered why they didn't. The write-up in the album tells why, and it's a sad story for aficionados of these two great voices. "Two of Us" is a superb album and worth the price. I would consider it a must-have for any R&B fan. Don't hesitate; go for it. RPB

First Issue: Dinah Washington Story11 reviews
Dinah Washington

Polygram Records, 1993

RobDove
A great overview of Ms. Washington's career. Nice mix of studio and live recordings. Nice mix of blues and jazz. Contains a scorching cover of Love For Sale - my favorite of her many covers of the song. Also great versions of Blue Gardenia, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, and Teach Me Tonight.

Ultimate Dinah Washington10 reviews
Dinah Washington

Polygram Records, 1997

fine Dinah Washington album--BRAVO, DINAH !!!
The Ultimate Dinah Washington is a wonderful selection of songs by Dinah that were hand picked by Abbey Lincoln. It's a crime that Dinah Washington is so largely forgotten these days; but hopefully with sales of her CDs like this one things will change. The quality of the sound couldn't be better and the artwork is very nice as well. The CD starts with Dinah Washington singing a great ...

Lionel Hampton (1942-1945) Flying Home1 review
Lionel Hampton, Illinois Jacquet, ...

Decca Jazz MCA Records, Inc., 1990

HAMPTON'S BEST VIBES
Here are some of the best of Hampton's Decca recordings from 1942-1945. Hamp's band was the most complex in jazz history, and his innovative use of the new-fangled electric guitar (Irving Ashby), electric bass (Vernon Alley) and even an electric violin (Ray Perry) set a whole new pace for R&B groups through the world. Even Hamp's vibraphone was enhanced with speakers - and his full, round, hot ...

Have Yourself a Jazzy Christmas6 reviews
Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, ...

Polygram Records, 1989

Holiday music by some of the legends of American jazz.
There's something for everyone on this wonderfully eclectic recording, which ranges from Oscar Peterson's almost lullaby-like piano on "A Child is Born" to Bill Evans's jazzy piano improvisations (overdubbed) on "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," and Sister Rosetta Tharpe's "O, Little Town of Bethlehem," a full-out, hand-clapping, rocking and stomping Gospel song. Containing both vocals and ...

Ultimate Diva Collection: The Diva Series2 reviews
Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, ...

Verve, 2003

Lullaby Of Birdland--and sweet lullabies from songbirds, too !!!
Ultimate Diva Collection: The Diva Series may not be complete but it sure does do a fine job with the material it offers us! I wish they had added a song or two to make this more substantial; but the sound quality is good and I like that artwork, too. Ella Fitzgerald, The First lady Of Song, gives us a live track of "How High The Moon." "How High The Moon" charms me completely when Ella sings ...

Dinah 624 reviews
Dinah Washington

Blue Note Records, 2003

Dinah's fantastic style
Here you have the chance to have a long-time-out-of-print CD that reissues the first of Dinah's Roulette's album. Her style was changing a little, and she made use of pauses and whispers much more than in the past. A must have to experience something really wonderful from the swinging Miss D. You'll also have some rare track from unissued LPs. Miky

Dinah Washington's Hit Albums
Back in the 80s I owned the vinyl albums and the cassettes of Dinah's hits. Over time and many moves, I lost track of them. I am very happy to have them back in disk form!
