A Wonderful Redording
I have the Original Broadway Recording of Candide with Barbara Cook, and I love it, but I needed to get the 1999 Royal National Theatre Cast recording as well. You see I am a singer/actor and I am going to be performing in a community theatre production of Candide and this version is the one that is closest to the score that we are going to use in the show. To be honest after I read the other ...

real music 4 a change
I loved "Southern Songbook" Jack did last year on Silverwolf. However, I think "Sentimental Southern Boy" showcases Jacky Jack's range of lyrical and melodic themes to an even better light. He certainly isn't trying to write "commercial". Jack just isn't limiting his self-expression. That's why I am an unabashed fan.The overall emphasis is the New South.Still, you can hear the magnolias rustlin' ...

This Makes You Want MORE MOZART!
This is excellent for a) people whom haven't really heard much Mozart and b) those whom are "easing back into" his music. I fit into the latter category. I recently watched Amadeus for the first time and was compelled to investigate more into Mozart's music.I just HAD to have more than my modest collection of his piano works, and this 2-disc set is PERFECT! Just enough highlights to ...

Oh Kay: Superb
This cast does a wonderfully with this most tuneful of the Gershwin musicals. As distinct from some other versions of the 1920's Gershwin musicals they do not make it out to be camp, or burlesque the 20's style in any way, They treat the material seriously, and the result is a joy to the ear. Cassidy and Cassidy's duets are simply beautiful music. This is the most 1920's of the Gershwin ...

Great Music from underrated film
Klaus Badelt is the best film composer since the late Basil Poledouris. The music from Ned Kelly - a film which did not receive the recognition it deserves from either critics or the public - is excellent.

An amazing soundtrack. Haunting and beautiful
This was an amazing soundtrack. I am a big fan of the true old mountain music, and Jack White has proved he has a talent that is boundless and knows no limit to genre. Loved the movie, loved the music. You can't go wrong with this one.

A Trip Back Home
A friend sent this to me and as soon as the first track came on - I was transported back home. They call it "Music For Your Southern Soul" and they are right. The Roy Acuff songs are classic and who can keep from singing when you hear "Waltz Across Texas"? Fuller and White can sing with the very best and yet the mood that strikes you is pure "down home". Now to some the "down home" part is on ...

The Prince is Flying ...
Portman herself describes this as a "children's opera". It is full of children's voices, and, as one result of this, is so charming that one can easily underestimate its other qualities: its wit, its inventiveness (the duet between the adult soprano and the boy treble is especially unusual), and the sense it evokes of soaring, yearning flight. The libretto is beautifully judged, and the whole ...

White Stripes Rock!
I really like the White Stripes. Their music is alive and kicking, unlike so much over-rehearsed, technologically drowned-out, re-mixed, so-called music these days. This tribute album has the White Stripes musical quality, regardless if it sounds like it is played by a high-school-level string quartet. Heck, the White Stripes sound like a garage-band to me. In either case, the artists make the ...

This isn't the White Stripes, It's "JACKY" Jack White
Although it shouldn't stop anyone from checking out the album, it should be noted that the singer-songwriter behind this record is NOT the same Jack White as the White Stripes' guitar hero. Since typing "Jack White" into Amazon will give you dozens of Jack "White Stripes" White references with a few scattered mentions of the traditional-country "Jacky Jack" White, it can be confusing, especially ...
