Movie Themes with a Classical Twist
What's not to like about a good song from a good movie? All the classic movie themes (i.e., Titanic, Zorba the Greek, etc.) are here but played by a full orchestra. I considered this approach to modern music a true and distinct pleasure and a nice break from the classical music that Andre Rieu's orchestra normally presents. The music is uplifting and makes you want to break out in song or get ...

all the stars you've got
Bill Evans once said that technique in jazz "is the ability to translate your ideas into sound through your instrument." If that's the case, Legrand possesses technique in spades. Before commenting on this rewarding disc, a few words about Legrand himself: Is there a better songwriter or a more versatile all-around musican alive today? I think you have to go back to people like Gershwin ...

Outstanding Collection
The aptly named Ultimate Movie Music Collection does not disappoint in the least. As a film score and movie soundtrack purist, I am always skeptical about any CD with film scores that have been re-orchestrated, and re-recorded by a pops orchestra. More often than not, renditions of scores tend to lack the emotion and impact of the original and are vastly inferior. I can confidently say that this ...

Wonderful Early Kunzel recording
I watched a ton of movies growing up through middle & highschool, so these Kunzel/Cincinnati Pops CDs were like gold for me. They were released before the age of the crappy Silva compilations. Telarc was, at the time, THE standard for early digital audio and it shows. The production values on these CDs were big, bold, and full of ear pleasing sound even on some of the lesser quality themes. ...

The most soothing sounds
I grew up listening to Zamfir's pan flute soothing music, then for the past 15 years, I've been away from it until I heard The Lonely Shepherd while watching Kill Bill. I was pleasantly surprised to find the CD at Amazon and bought it at once. Many of the other songs on this CD are good as well, but nothing beats The Lonely Shepherd.

Favorite Soundtrack
This has been one of my favorite movies since it came out when I was 16. My original vinyl of the soundtrack had developed lots of scratches, pops and hisses from years of use, so I was thrilled to be able to replace it with a CD. The music is great and, if you've seen the film, the included dialogue aids in moving the story along. The first half of the CD is a mixture of dialogue and songs while ...

One of her best!
This movie is a very well crafted musical, and I was surprised that Streisand herself created this movie.I didn't realize she was that great of a musical genius. After seeing this movie, I don't think she's acted in anything as good since then. It def. has the elements of being your typical broadway play. A love story with a crazy suitation. I decided to check this movie becuase it was free on ...

What an amazing sound.
I heard a track from this CD on the radio and knew I had to hear more of this wonderful group so I purchased the CD "All Angels". I have not been disappointed, each track is uplifting and exciting, beautiful and pure. I just love this CD and have since purchased another CD by 'All Angel' as well.

"The Summer Smiles, The Summer Knows"
"When Monica Mancini set out to record this retrospective of songs from films, she clearly had her passions in order. Monica comes by her affinity for the medium honestly, having grown up in a house permeated with some of the best film music in history, from the pen of her incredibly prolific father, Henry. So it is no surprise that this collection has all the artistry, pathos, and musicality ...

music from a dream
Other than the theme and end tracks, the whole album is from Picasso Suite. I have never seen that film but I have seen the Summer of 42. It is a lovely film. The sumptuous photography, the sensitive acting performances from Herme and the beautiful Jennifer O`Neill. I still treasure the impressionistic image of her on the sheet music. And best of all is Michel Legrand`s masterpiece. If you want ...

better than you think ...
It really did not get a fair shake from the other review - with titles like "The Way We Were", "Moon River", "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing", and "Evergreen", why would you think you could do anything else that required you to pay full attention to it - like drive? I pull music like this from my shelves when I want to study or when I want music but don't want to fingerpop - I don't choose music ...

Love Song DVD by James Galway
Anything that Galway does is good listening, I really enjoy his music as it's both calming and good listening. Particularly good when trying to get to sleep and the brain won't shut off so this is music that one can "get into" which sidetracks the cerebral neurons.

Too Good to Last
I heard this on PBS. Galway and Mancini may be two of the most talented musicians of our century. Galway for his complete mastery of the flute and Mancini for his ability to arrange , produce and in this instance direct the orchestra while Galway performs. They do several duets of a comical nature as well. This is important because it is one of Mancini's last efforts prior to his unfortunate ...

Breathtakingly beautiful!
Over and over we played "Die Menge der Engel" - - it is stunningly beautiful! The loftiness of the voices, wonderful. We loved the boys/children's choruses on many of the other pieces on the album. Duets by Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavorati - - magnifico! It is a pleasant compilation of traditional favorites and awesome classical pieces that are worth listening to again and again.

Breathtaking, magnificent....A MUST HAVE!!!
This is no doubt, a great CD by a great diva and a great composer...period. It's jazz singing at its very finest, with the most beautiful nuances and vocalization you'll probably ever hear. Jessye Norman, one of my favorite Sieglinde's, Ariadnes, and Kundry's, sings these songs in such an artistic and captivating way that I would gladly give in and say that this is one of the best CD's I've ...
