The Joy of Christmas26 reviews
John Francis Wade, Anonymous, ...

Sony, 1997

An American reading of Christmas that unlocks the flavor.
This CD features a gay, Jewish, conductor from liberal Massachusetts and a choir full of Mormons from conservative Utah, and matches them up with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Let us meditate on the words: "New York": melting pot of the USA and of the world. Of course, this CD will explode into the most exuberant, festive, electric, over-the top, Christmas record to come out of the genre ...

Rejoice and Be Merry: Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square Featuring The ...10 reviews
The King's Singers

Mormon Tabernacle Choir, 2008

Simply the best!
Once again, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir doesn't disappoint. This is probably the best Christmas CD I own! Their version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is priceless!

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing11 reviews
Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Mormon Tabernacle

One of the Best CD's
This is a little different take on the traditional hymns we often hear. I like it. The arrangements make the hymn identification a little tricky at first. Great change of pace.

Mormon Tablernacle Choir, 2009

A live recording celebrating the holiday spirit with jubilation
Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell lends his talents to a performance of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, along with bell choir of more than 100 individuals. Ring Christmas Bells is a live recording celebrating the holiday spirit with jubilation, featuring classic Christmas songs infused with the love and devotion of the performers. Highly recommended especially ...

The Wonder of Christmas3 reviews
Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra at Temple Square, ...

Mormon Tabernacle, 2006

Breathtaking
I am a musician at heart (read: critical and difficult to please, but very moved by good music) and this is my absolute favorite christmas album. The arrangements are incredible and the performances will blow you away. This is a must have for those who truly appreciate music and even those who just love christmas music (who doesn't?). Even my hubby, who listens to rap and thinks choir music is ...

Silent Night: The Greatest Hits of Christmas6 reviews
Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Sony, 1990

An awesome performance!
Wow!!! A tour-de-force by America's preeminent choir! Those people that can "feel choral music in their soul", rather than just listen to music, cannot help but to be impressed with this CD. Of especial power are "Joy to the World", "Silent Night", and the "Hallelujah Chorus". Hearing these songs sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has to be as close to listening to Heaven's Choir of Angels that ...

I feel it
Let's face it, many people have written about the technicality of this cd. Like many I heard this rendition when it first came out..I loved it. Then I got busy with life and the record got lost or broken and I didn't think much about it. Recently I have hungered for this recording and was pleased to find it available. However, reading some of the reviews I became curious as to whether there ...

Spirit of The Season: Christmas with Sissel and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir20 reviews
Franz Xaver Gruber, Gustav Holst, ...

Mormon Tabernacle Choir, 2007

Oh my gosh---glorious!
We attended this concert in person though we had never heard of Sissel beforehand. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert is always worth seeing, but Sissel's angelic voice put it out of this world. The CD is my favorite holiday CD by far. Do not miss this CD for the world!

Spirit of Christmas10 reviews
Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Sony Special Product, 1996

A Christmas Staple & A Singularly Wonderful Recording
I am a Christmas-carol-ophile, and I agree with the other reviewers that this recording is an absolute Christmas staple. Ever since I was a young child, at least as young as 3 or 4 years old, I have been enchanted and mesmerized by the music of Christmas in a way that few others do. This great love is reflected in my CD collection, so top-heavy with Christmas music that some find it unusual. So ...

Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring / Mormon Tabernacle Choir4 reviews
Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, ...

Sony, 1992

Bach and Handel Treats
The unfortunate thingÑif anything can be said to the contrary about this collectionÑis that is an older recording. As far as authenticity, what was available in the days of Bach and Handel to perform their music, and what they may have had in mind as the formidable way of presenting it to the publicÑas well as to the heavensÑmay be quite different things. Viewed in this way, authenticity may ...

Peace Like a River10 reviews
Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Irving Berlin, ...

Mormon Tabernacle, 2004

This CD Deserves SIX Stars!
However, the rating scale has a limit of five. I own over 700 CDs of virtually every type of music. Peace Like A River belongs in a class by itself! I've never written a review before but, after listening to this STUNNING performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I feel compelled to share my praise with that of the five other reviewers. If I were limited to one word, I would use the word ...

Praise to the Man: Songs Honoring the Prophet Joseph Smith2 reviews
Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Mormon Tabernacle, 2009

A unique, reverent entry in the MTC's oeuvre...
In the liner notes to this release, "Praise To The Man" is described as "the most 'Mormon' of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's albums" and that's correct. Mormons believe that God speaks to man through prophets, the same today as in ancient times, and the first prophet of their church was Joseph Smith. This CD collects songs associated with Smith, some written about his life and experiences ...

It's Christmas4 reviews
Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Sony Special Product, 1995

really nice music but...
The music is wonderful but the seller needs a little work. I ordered these CD in the beginning of December and did not get them until after Christmas. It was tossed into a brown envelope with no packing. CD were cracked and soaking wet. Buyer watch out. Order for someplace else.

Songs of the Civil War & Stephen Foster Favorites11 reviews
Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Sony, 1992

Magestic music
These are Civil War songs and are sung in the usual all out effort of the Morman Tabernacle Choir. Many of these are simple songs and would probably be best with a solo singer and a guitar. To hear them sung with massed choirs, full blown organ and all the embellishments is pretty strange but all in all they are a pleasure to hear.

Consider the Lilies14 reviews
John Rutter, Jonathan Willcocks, ...

Mormon Tabernacle, 2003

Absolutely the BEST !
Our church choir sang a few of these songs which I loved, so I decided to order it. It is a very sweet, gentle, inspiring collection of music. Many times when you get a CD, you are fortunate to find 2-4 on there that you really like enough to play regularly. But on this one, every song is wonderful. This music is so spiritually uplifting and peaceful that you will want to play it regularly. ...

A Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas16 reviews
George Frideric Handel, Mykola Dmytrovich Leontovych, ...

Telarc, 2001

Fresh and Original Arrangements
As you might expect, this is quite a grand Christmas recording, featuring the choir, orchestra, and mighty organ of the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City under their new conductor, Craig Jessop, who studied under the late Robert Shaw. What is especially welcome about this recording is that although it consists of the standard traditional Christmas carols, the arrangements are fresh and ...
