Best Mormon Tabernacle Choir Album I own
I own many Mormon Tabernacle Choir CDs, including some of their later releases on their own label, and as far as I'm concerned this one is the best. They are all good, but every hymn in this collection is a pleasure to listen to.

Joyous and Beautiful
American composer Randall Thompson (1899-1984) is something of a forgotten figure these days. The recording we have here is of some of his choral works. The CD opens with an energetic performance of "The Last Words of David," with the choir accompanied by the Tabernacle organ, then moves on to the utterly delightful Frostiana, which comprises seven poems by Robert Frost (yes, including that ...

Fresh and Original Arrangements
As you might expect, this is quite a grand Christmas recording, featuring the choir, orchestra, and mighty organ of the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City under their new conductor, Craig Jessop, who studied under the late Robert Shaw. What is especially welcome about this recording is that although it consists of the standard traditional Christmas carols, the arrangements are fresh and ...

Stunning recording -- the Choir's sound is transformed!
There is much to admire about the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's signature sound - it is confident, mature, stirring. And when you hear those blazing climaxes at the end of, say, "Battle Hymn of the Republic" or "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing," you can't help but feel certain that is what the Choir was made for. That's why this new recording has left me somewhat at a loss for words. It is an ...

This is the one!
If you want to hear the best of the best, this CD is it. These hymn arrangements are just beautiful and very touching. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the choir and wants to feel a little closer to heaven. The choir seems to sing literally with one voice and you feel like they are singing just for you. Congratulations to the new conductor, Craig Jessop and all those who ...

Glorious
I have long been a fan of Dr. Wilberg's work. Most people are more familiar with his arrangements, but this disc of original works is beyond words. The Requiem has some of the most gorgeous sounds possible, especially considering the humble orchestration that omits all brass but horns. The middle movement, "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place", is so hauntingly beatiful with Ms. von Stade's solo ...

Absolutely the BEST !
Our church choir sang a few of these songs which I loved, so I decided to order it. It is a very sweet, gentle, inspiring collection of music. Many times when you get a CD, you are fortunate to find 2-4 on there that you really like enough to play regularly. But on this one, every song is wonderful. This music is so spiritually uplifting and peaceful that you will want to play it regularly. ...

Breathtaking
I am a musician at heart (read: critical and difficult to please, but very moved by good music) and this is my absolute favorite christmas album. The arrangements are incredible and the performances will blow you away. This is a must have for those who truly appreciate music and even those who just love christmas music (who doesn't?). Even my hubby, who listens to rap and thinks choir music is ...

Brand-new Christmas music from the Tabernacle Choir!
This brand-new recording of Christmas music from the Tabernacle Choir is marvellous. Recorded on their own "Mormon Tabernacle Choir" label, this is the choir's first recording of seasonal music, and it surpasses any previous holiday release that the choir has made. Using the music of both John Rutter and the arrangements of Mack Wilberg, "Sing Choirs of Angels" enjoys a wonderful flow from ...

From one who loved Glorious history of Robert Shaw Chorale n 1957
First hearing this amazing impression of the current Atlanta Symphony Chamber Chorus under Norman MacKenzie, gave me such a sparkling crispness of "Ubi Caritas" from his first Touring performance of Durufle`...I was considering the possibility of another balanced CD recording with 6 pieces of the newer version of Atlanta Symphonty Chorus with older versions and the newest Choral offerings of The ...

Good for what it is, however narrow.
The Absolute Sound has been a premiere audiophile rag for decades. If you are one, you already know them. If not, then there is only a small chance their magazine will be useful to you. They have another publication for home theatre, "Perfect Vision" which has far broader appeal these days. SACD is the format for this disk. Many of them are pressed in "hybrid" for use on conventional CD ...

Disappointing presentation of great music
I recently received this as a present but I was already familiar with many of these recordings, having owned the complete versions of the works presented. Yes, these are great recordings but if you settle for this compilation you will be missing out big time on great music. I own Fennell's recording on the Holst suite--while the March from the suite is very good, you will miss out on the ...
