Yehudi Menuhin, Jacqueline Du Pre, ...

Most Relaxing Classical Music. II
Beautifully done, arranged, and selected. All are very good performances, and there are many lesser known but wonderful pieces such as the movement from Shostakovich's second piano concerto.

Sing Ye Heavens - Hymns for All Time12 reviews
Cambridge Singers, John Rutter

Collegium, 2000

Another Rutter Keeper!
Rutter has won many fans throughout the world for his passionate, creative yet tasteful contributions to church music. Here is a hymn collection with several traditional choices along with Rutter originals. Several comprise Rutter's remakes, which is most cases are very diginified and not at all distractive to the thrust of the original. The orchestration is superb, and the Cambridge Singers of ...

Collegium, 2000

It's Beauty Revealed, At Last
This Collegium COLCD 109 is a later release of the Collegium COLCD 101 which I purchased circa 1985 after reading glowing reviews in Grammophone magazine. COLCD 101 is labeled Stereo/Digital. COLCD 109 is labeled Stereo/DDD. Is it a re-mastering? Liner notes don't say, but the new version provides noticeable improvements in vividness and clarity. The release of COLCD 101 was a watershed ...

Why I Like Tthis CD
This is an excellent CD. I had an ulterior motive for ordering it, however. I sing in a local Choral Society and we are performing it this coming weekend. I wanted the CD to follow along at home and get my part down a little better. I do very much enjoy John Rutter's music and the Cambridge Singers are very good.

Distant Land: The Orchestra Collection11 reviews
John Rutter, Andrew Nicholson, ...

Decca, 2004

An Orchestral Extravaganza
John Rutter is one of today's leading composers and arrangers of music for chorus and orchestra. Some of his best works are featured in this instrumental album played with a lush flavor. But the highlight is a concerto arrangement of top Beatle's songs played in a symphonic mode featuring two pianos. You have the feel of the great master composers and the fun of listening to an unbelievable ...

Gloria: The Sacred Music of John Rutter7 reviews
John Rutter, The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, ...

Collegium, 2005

Seamlessness
Absolutely incredible performance. No overdubbing here, friends. With Rutter at the helm, this group plays as if the piece never existed on paper, floating seamlessly through this many metered montage of ethereal aural bliss. Buy this now, strap on your Sennheiser's and prepare for a very serious voyage.

The Music of St. Paul's Cathedral10 reviews
Timothy Jones, Hubert Parry, ...

Hyperion UK, 2000

Excellent Cathedral Organ & Choral
This selection of recordings by The Choir of St. Paul's Cathedral contains pieces representative of traditional Anglican musical liturgy. The technical aspects of this production on compact disk seem to be outstanding, but beware that the original recordings were in some cases less than stellar. Another reviewer points out that on some tracks the lyrics sung by the choir are overwhelmed by the ...

Lux Aurumque7 reviews
Alexander Grechaninov, Howard Hanson, ...

Gothic Records, 2007

Stunning!
This album is fantastic. For years I have searched for the perfect recording of Salvation Is Created, and I believe the search is over. It is as close to perfection as humanly possible. This music is a must have. Whitacre's Lux Aurumque has long been a favorite, and this is the finest I have ever heard it performed. It is so well done that it transports the listener into a blissful, ...

Cambridge Singers - Lighten our Darkness (2 CD)4 reviews
Louis Bourgeois, William Byrd, ...

Collegium, 2006

Marvelous
This is superb a capella singing. Each note, each syllable, is just right. John Rutter has a genius for writing and, as is the case here, performing religious choral music. The sound is gorgeous. Highest recommendation.

Hallelujah: 35 Great Sacred Choruses3 reviews
David Thomas, Petteri Salomaa, ...

lovely works...
Excellent selections... my favorite is the Sanctus by Gounod. The music seems to build in the blood... the organ being the heartbeat. If you turn the volume up just right... a memorable experience. Beautiful!

Brother Sun, Sister Moon10 reviews
Gregorian Chant, William Byrd, ...

American Gramaphone, 1990

Light and shadows
Recorded in the Great Hall of University College School, London, the Cambridge Singers under the direction of John Rutter produced a true masterpiece in 'Brother Sun, Sister Moon' in 1988. The title derives from a famous prayer by St. Francis of Assisi, and is inspired by liturgical music from (or derivative of) the Middle Ages and Renaissance polyphony and Gregorian chant. The music is ...

Consider the Lilies14 reviews
John Rutter, Mack Wilberg

Mormon Tabernacle, 2003

Absolutely the BEST !
Our church choir sang a few of these songs which I loved, so I decided to order it. It is a very sweet, gentle, inspiring collection of music. Many times when you get a CD, you are fortunate to find 2-4 on there that you really like enough to play regularly. But on this one, every song is wonderful. This music is so spiritually uplifting and peaceful that you will want to play it regularly. ...

The John Rutter Christmas Album25 reviews
Franz Xaver Gruber, Stephen Varcoe, ...

Collegium, 2002

Good for Chorus Members!
This is an excellent Christmas album! John Rutter is truely a wonderful contemporary composer. As a member of a symphony chorus that sang several Rutter numbers this year, the album was a big help in learning some of his lesser known carols. Thanks!

katherine Jenkins - Live in the Park3 reviews

Universal Import, 2008

A fun evening......
I bought this after thoroughly enjoying Katherine's "Live at Llangollen" DVD. The girl has gained quite a following based, I fear, as much on her stunning beauty as on her voice. The looks have made her a poster girl for Mont Blanc, while the voice has gotten some bad press ("Opera News") which is, to an extent, I think, a bit unfair. Katherine is an entertainer who uses classical music as her ...

Top quality crossover classical music
Wales, the land of song, has produced many outstanding singers in a variety of musical styles. Bryn Terfel is doing much to continue that tradition by using his wonderful baritone voice to record a series of brilliant albums. Judging by his repertoire, Bryn enjoys several different, mainly traditional, musical styles.# On this album, Bryn mixes classical pieces with folk songs, show songs, ...

Rutter: Requiem10 reviews
Susan Dorey, John Rutter, ...

Naxos, 2003

A glorious piece
--Music-- Rutter's Requiem was written in 1985. In Catholic liturgy, a requiem is a Mass for the Dead, and as such involves strong tones both of mourning and loss as well as elements of hope and eternal life as reflected in Christian belief. Rutter states that, like Brahms and Faure, there are elements that depart from the traditional lines of a Catholic requiem. Rutter takes some of the texts ...
