The Black Keys

Nonesuch, 2010

Album of the Year...so far.
If the year was to end today, this would be the Album of the Year. They take an old-school blues style and give it a modern twist. The only wish I had would be to hear more songs produced by Danger Mouse, but even without DM working the knobs, the songs have a unique style. Buy this album. It will not let you down.

Infinite Arms63 reviews
Band of Horses

Columbia, 2010

Different, but good
I have to say after the first listen I wasn't impressed, but then it sunk in. This to me is a very good album. Give it a few listens. I'm not sure what people are looking for in their music. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. It's an album worth listening to from start to finish, which is what's missing from a lot of today's music. Give it a chance, it's a good album, just different ...

High Violet54 reviews
The National

4ad Records, 2010

Melancholy and the Incredible Sadness
While XX was heralded as the breakout emo rock band of 2009, The National ups the ante and releases their most visible effort to date. Veering towards deep melancholy and even sounding downright depressive at times, songs like Terrible Love, Bloodbuzz Ohio, Runaway and Sorrow will probably get you through that long, quiet night.

The Gaslight Anthem

Side One Dummy, 2010

American Slang is the Bomb!
Just want to say I'm 49 years old, my kids thank i'm old fashioned because i don't listen to much new music. But it's hard to find good stuff now days. But i found this band about a month ago and love all three albums. This new one American Slang has 10 dynamic songs in 34 minutes and goes by fast, great stuff! Brian Fallon's got a great future. Check out his first band This Charming ...

Florence + the Machine

Universal Republic, 2009

I am Shocked over how amazing this album is
I NEVER REVIEW MUSIC BECAUSE YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR OWN OPINION OF MUSIC BUT>>> This album is phenomenal. AT first i couldn't stand that "Dog Days are Over" song, but while listening to slacker.com (online radio) "Rabbit Heart" and "Kiss with a Fist" ran through the list and each time i heard it i said to myself..Oh this is pretty good who is it? and low and behold it was Florence and the ...

Staring Down the Brilliant Dream3 reviews
Indigo Girls

Vanguard Records, 2010

Another Brilliant Evening with the Girls
How do they do it? After a few live albums and DVDs (including the amazing "1200 Curfews"), the Indigo Girls deliver another gift to their fans. "Staring Down the Brilliant Dream," like "1200 Curfews," isn't a coherent concert, nor is it meant to be. Instead, it's a collection of live recordings, each chosen for its particular energy, and man, does it connect. We get the passionate arena rock ...

Up From Below25 reviews
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Vagrant Records, 2009

Magnetic Dynamite
What an absolute delight it was listening to this recording. The artists, without exception, are unique and enthusiastic in their performances. The instrumentation and arrangements are refreshing and lively. There just seems to be no limit to which instrument might show up in each succeeding composition. The compostions, numbers 1,2,6 and 11, terrific. I've haven't been this delighted by a music ...

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix69 reviews
Phoenix

Glass Note, 2009

fun record!
This is such a catchy, fun, and light record. Very lo-fi sounding. I'm not sure how long this album took to record, but it's like they got into the studio, rolled the tape, and played the songs. There is that kind of energy here. Pretty good songs that at catchy and the singer has an interesting voice.

American Idiot2081 reviews
Green Day

Reprise Records, 2004

Green Day's best album!
American Idiot has to be Green Day's best album. I don't enjoy Rock Operas but still this is their best album ever! Here is my review for each song. 1. American Idiot- 5/5. The first single on the album. I believe this song is about George W. Bush. 2. Jesus Of Suburbia- 5/5. I really like this song but it's so long, due to the Rock Opera. 3. Holiday- 5/5. Another great song. Which ...

So Runs the World Away19 reviews
Josh Ritter

Pytheas, 2010

Ritter's Best Yet.
Gorgeous melodies, brilliant lyrics, and plenty of charisma make Ritter's studio albums a real pleasure, but I have found his tendency to parrot other great songwriters a little diappointing. Sometimes he's a less sardonic Dylan, sometimes a less agile Paul Simon. And sometimes he's Josh Ritter, which is great. On this album, he seems to have grown up, or he's struck a vein of something really ...

EXPO 865 reviews
Wolf Parade

Sub Pop, 2010

The catchiness of their first record, plus the depth of their second.
Wolf Parade's greatest strength is having two amazing songwriters at the helm. This could be an impediment; some people baselessly claim this in regard to At Mount Zoomer, but this simply outs those with little to no patience. But the band's third album, Expo 86, begins with a killer drum and guitar riff that puts Spencer Krug's amazing lyrical talents front and foremost. This album is the ...

Till The Light Comes7 reviews
Jackie Greene

429 Records, 2010

Excellent!
I've been a huge fan of Jackie for a long time. I saw him one year in San Fran, and have been in love ever since. This record is defiantly one of favorites, and I have them all! Check out Shaky Ground and Medicine! He really is a breath of fresh air in this turbo pop world!

I and Love and You69 reviews
The Avett Brothers

Sony, 2009

A very pleasant surprise!
I heard the title track on the radio and went home to find the name of this artist. I promptly ordered the disc and what a beautiful piece of music! Wonderfully haunting, spiritual, and good for about any listening occasion. I am a child of the 70's and cannot appreciate most of the music popular nowadays. I have not purchased current music in years. I'm so glad I found the Avett Bros! 5 ...

See You On The Moon10 reviews
Tift Merritt

Fantasy, 2010

Tift Merritt goes four for four
If there is one thing that can be said about Tift Merritt, it's that she has never made a bad album. Starting with her 2002 debut "Bramble Rose", her body of work has been nothing short of consistent. She has garnered widespread critical acclaim- even if the promotion was lacking. She seemed to be destined for stardom with her sophomore album "Tambourine" getting a Grammy nomination and the first ...

I really enjoy this album. Usually there's 4-5 songs I don't really enjoy on an album, only 1 on this one!

She & Him - Volume Two39 reviews
She & Him

Merge Records, 2010

Era of Integrity
I love She & Him! They hearken back to the day when music had real integrity. Volume Two (like Volume One) is an eclectic mix of feel-good tunes that really lift your mood. She & Him do great credit to the era they aim to represent and blow a breath of fresh air and authenticity into the present one - they are certainly not your generic, tawdry pop outfit. Kudos to Matt and Zooey who are genuine ...

Together23 reviews
New Pornographers

Matador Records, 2010

Love pure and simple
a great album. Bite out of my bed is a catchy little song that I have listened to over and over. But it is far from the only highlight. Really, in my opinion, there isn't a bad song on this album.
