John Mellencamp
Hear Music, 2008
Mellencamp or Mellowcamp
In my opinion this newest work of John Mellencamp is reminiscent of earlier times, especially My Sweet Love. This is a good feeling song that captures how I want to feel. The line, "sure feels good to feel good again is priceless! Some of the tracks are rather melancholy but for the most part the songs are just songs of truth. I especially like "Jesus, can you give me ride back home" I for ...

Into The Wild
This CD is amazing...the movie is awesome, it is an amazing story and the soundtrack really captures the essence of the story. Having listened to the CD so many times, now I want to see the movie again to see where the songs fit in. While the music can certainly stand on it's own, seeing the movie really increases its relevance. Totally recommend....hands down.

Eva Cassidy

Five Stars Aren't Enough..."Somewhere" Is Sublime, Exquisite, and Mesmerizing
Eva Cassidy's music touches me deeply. One of the few singers whose voice is so profoundly moving that it can make me cry (her "Over the Rainbow" from Songbird does it every time), Eva Cassidy is a singer's singer, a virtuoso with a tone so pure that it's practically crystalline. I have all of her previous releases and listen to them often. When I saw "Somewhere" at a local store, I bought it ...

An Instant Masterpiece : A Classic thats Not for Everyone
Carla Bruni's music isn't taken very seriously anymore, which is a pity because she is a fantastic musician first. In fact, I would rate her career in modelling a far, far second - because give this woman a guitar and tell her to sing and it WORKS. Her voice, a strong reed of an instrument, is a luscious thing to behold - capable of 'driving men insane' (as a French daily once said while ...

Great Sounds From A Classic Artist
I looked forward to buying this CD as soon as I heard about the release date, but then I began reading some of the reviews on CDNow when the recording first became available. Van's music has been an inspiration since the 60's, and I am glad I finally ignored the negative reviews and bought this one. I guess I don't know why some feel this is somehow less than acceptable. Fans have done ...

Amy Macdonald

The next Dido?
Female folk/rock has come a long way from the so-called "Sad Girl Music" of the 70's. Now it's a lot more feisty and a bit more fun. Young Scot Amy MacDonald's "This is the Life", while not a perfect album, is tuneful and saucy and very very promising. Best Two Tracks: TRACK FOUR "Youth of Today": Bouncy yet somehow angry anthem does indeed sound like something a preteen would write, but ...

An Amazing Collaboration That Works !
As a fan of both Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, I initially thought this was a strange pairing, but found it to be an amazing collaboration. The music at once is old-school and contemporary at the same time. It reminds me of a new singer-songwriter I recently came across-Arrica Rose...her new album La La Lost melodic 70's folk with a touch of country...old-fashioned and modern.

Addictingly Refreshing For Sure!
Even though I am sooo late in getting Coco, I am sooo glad to have it now. With my first listen and each listen since then, I have been loving the kaleidascope uniqueness found in each of these songs. Bubbly is the song that caught my attention first, hearing it on the radio, and then with hearing Realize, I knew I wanted to hear more of Colbie's magic. There isn't a bad song in the bunch. Colbie ...

Great Listening
Steve still has it! Not a whole lot of broken ground here, but solid music with great percussion, and classic organ. His voice is still as good as when he was with Spencer Davis doing "Gimme some lovin". Nice surprise.

John Hiatt
New West Records, 2008
John Hiatt's best in a long while
Never met a John Hiatt album I didn't like, but this one is cream of the crop. For me 'Walk On' was Hiatt's last album for the ages. The self-aware and lackluster follow up, 'Little Head', was a bit of a disappointment and it's been a mixed bag since then. Certainly 'Crossing Muddy Waters' was a stand-out in a stellar catalogue. I was worried when I found out he was working with many of the ...

Rodrigo y Gabriela
ATO Records, 2006
Fantastic!
It somewhat hard to describe the style of music Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero play, but the best I could think of is a fusion of rock, jazz, metal, and traditional Mexican and Spanish styles such as flamenco. This CD contains one of the best covers of Stairway to Heaven I have ever heard. They also stay true to Metallica's Orion. The rest of the tracks are original compositions, which are ...

Peter Paul & Mary
Rhino / Wea, 2005
incredible songs and hits from Peter, Paul & Mary
The Very Best of Peter, Paul & Mary is an impressive CD with twenty-five (yes, twenty-five) wonderful folk rock songs by Peter, Paul & Mary. They sing and play beautifully; and this album proves they were--and still are--extremely talented. The sound quality is excellent and the artwork is very well done. "Early In The Morning" starts the CD with some great harmonizing and they sing their ...

An awesome album
Matt Nathanson is not an artist that we get to hear in New Zealand. So I'm glad I stumbled across his music on the net. A really inspiring CD (as is 'Beneath these Fireworks - which I ordered at the same time) that I haven't stopped listening to since it arrived on my doorstep. Totally recommended!

Not the same stuff that you hear all the time so that is very nice. She always has a wonderful voice and I love the songs she has chosen for this CD. I highly recommend it-most especially if you are a Sarah McClachlan fan...as I obviously am.
