Wagner: The Great Operas from the Bayreuth Festival3 reviews
Richard Wagner, Karl Bohm, ...

Decca, 2008

Irresistible bargain for Wagnerites and explorers
This 33-CD compendium is certainly one of the finest bargains Decca has made available. All these recordings were made from live and rehearsal performances at Bayreuth and all are in fine stereo sound, well-mastered, which captures the Green Hill acoustic wonderfully well. At least one of these performances (Boehm's TRISTAN UND ISOLDE) can lay claim to being the best available version; the old ...

Paul Potts

Sony, 2007

Simply wow!
A friend sent me the YouTube segment of Paul winning the 'Britain's Got Talent' show and I knew I wanted to hear more. I am not a major fan of opera music but I like it now and then and this cd by Paul is definitely one I will listen to often. I hope he does more.

Lullaby for My Favorite Insomniac11 reviews
Ahn Trio

SONY CLASSICS, 2008

AHN TRIO CONTINUE TO MAKE SOME OF THE BEST CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL MUSIC
AHN TRIO LULLABY FOR MY FAVORITE INSOMNIAC The Ahn Trio is comprised of three sisters born in Korea and educated in the U.S.A. at the prestigious Juilliard School. They play piano, violin and cello and their deep-roots in the classical tradition are clearly evident. But consistent with their last two albums, their fifth CD, Lullaby for my Favorite Insomniac (Sony-BMG-RCA), finds them playing ...

The Mystery Of Santo Domingo De Silos Gregorian Chant From Spain7 reviews
Dom Ismaael Fernandez De La Cuesta, Chorus of Monks from the Abbey

Deutsche Grammophon, 1994

The best Chant CD on the market.
By happy coincidence, this CD was my introduction to Gregorian Chant and while I have since listened to many more, this disc is clearly the best. Right from the opening Dominus Regnavit and Laudate Dominum, the listener is caught up in what seems to be a swelling wave of deeply felt emotion, all the more impactful for the pure voices. Follows in due course the majestic old Credo and lastly for ...

The Best of Andrea Bocelli: Vivere50 reviews
Nathan East, Paolo Bighignoli, ...

Decca Records, 2007

Voice and instrumentation =
Very good LP. Each song seems to be a character, along with a great storyline. Bocelli's vocals are perfection, as usual, and wrapped within the walls of the other instruments, this LP is a perfect thing. It is NOT necessary to understand the lyrics, the delivery does more than speak to you: It creates a mood that reflects the very love that went into the creation of this LP. Great ...

Chant: Music For The Soul3 reviews
Gregorian Chant, Recorded Sound

Decca, 2008

Never heard anything like this before
This is amazingly beautiful. Imagine walking into Chartres cathedral on a rainy day. The sheer beauty and of the place overwhelms you with the feeling that you are in the presence of God. Then, from somewhere, music begins. It is lovely and otherworldly. The voices rise and fall, bringing goosebumps to your skin. It is something beyond time and beyond human knowledge. That's the ...

Luciano Pavarotti: The Best (Farewell Tour)25 reviews
Eric Garrett, Rolando Panerai, ...

Decca, 2005

The best CD of Pavarotti, without question!
This CD of the great Maestro, features all the best arias and songs, including my favorite, Donizetti's Ah Mes Ami, which gave Pav the title of "King of the High C's". Without question, Pav is and will always remain the greatest voice in opera. This is the CD that I always start my car with! Love it and give it the highest recommendation. Any opera lover, and all Pav lovers should own this ...

Decca, 2005

Great voice, great songs
She truly does a beautiful job singing Enya's "May it Be" from LOTR. Another favorite of mine on this album is "Dell'Amore Non Si Sa", a duet with Andrea Bocelli. Need I say more? You'll enjoy this album.

Tchaikovsky - Eugene Onegin / Fleming, Vargas, Hvorostovsky, Gergiev, Carsen [Metropolitan Opera 2007]31 reviews
Renee Fleming, Ramon Vargas

Decca, 2007

The best DVD version of Eugene Onegin
Robert Carsen's production is lovely with a successful blend of conservative and new ideas. I know this opera for years, and have quite a few recordings of it. But never before did its closing scene move me, as in this performance. This is mostly because of the singing and acting intensity of Hvorostovsky and Fleming. Highly recommended.

A Bride's Guide to Wedding Music11 reviews
Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, ...

Naxos, 2002

A must have in your music library
I had ordered this cd on the recommendation of the musical director from my Church who has quite an extensive international background. I mistakenly thought I would just use it to pick out songs for the ceremony portion of my wedding. It turns out it has so many classical songs from Bach and many other artists. I listen to it often because the music is so beautiful. I recommend it to anyone ...

Kapell Rediscovered12 reviews
Thomas Arne, Johann Sebastian Bach, ...

RCA, 2008

A Journey Back in Time
When I first heard that these recording by William Kapell were available I thought they might have been part of an archive found by an Australian Broadcast Corporation. The reality was a bit disappointing in that Kapell's final performances were preserved in an off-the-air recording made by a music enthusiast. I had to conclude that the quality of the recordings could only be abysmal, despite ...

Puccini - La Boheme / Pavarotti, Scotto, Niska, Wixell, Plishka, Levine, Metropolitan Opera21 reviews
Renata Scotto, Luciano Pavarott

Deutsche Grammophon, 2005

La Boheme
A marvelous version of this great opera. The 'young' Pavoratti's voice simply soars. I saw the new Met version recently which was excellent, but no comparison in tenors. What a loss too soon when he died.

Andrea Bocelli

Philips, 1997

AMAZING! Couldn't Stop Playing It!
When I first bought this CD, I couldn't stop playing it! For days I did almost nothing but listen to this extraordinary voice singing these beautiful songs. After more than five years, I still listen to it often and am surprised to find that I love it every bit as much as when I first discovered it. This is the best of Boccelli's albums (although his concert at Lake Las Vegas is a close ...

Berlin: Songs of Love and War1 review
Wendy Sutter, Theo Bleckmann, ...

Winter & Winter, 2008

transcendent, shimmering vocal style
I feel that Theo Bleckmann is a unique vocal artist. His voice as a transparency that floats on the air and doesn't clutter the music as written by the composers he selects to highlight. He has made a name for himself with several collaborative projects with Ben Monder. For my money, this work transcends them all. He brings a wonderful nuance and clarity to these works sung in both German and ...
