Social Distortion

other reviewers are taking themselves too seriously. Get off your punk Rock throne and just appreciate good music!
I can't say enough about this album. I am a huge Social Distortion fan. To me every band is held up against them and no one can compare. This album is the best. Every song is fantastic. You can't go wrong. I really don't get the other reviews that are not in favor of this album. I listen to mostly punk and alt country. There is such a thing as punk rock snobs and I think a bunch wrote ...

Seasonal beauty
This is a real treat for A Fine Frenzy Fans. Following the acclaimed album 'One Cell in the Sea', and the hugely successful follow-up 'Bomb in a Birdcage', Alison Sudol and her band have now released this special EP of Christmas songs old and new. How does it compare with what went before? Well, the first thing to note is that this was co-produced by Alison Sudol herself, and in fact the result ...

A Twentieth-Century Faust
DOCTOR ATOMIC is a timely work of art that is at once crucial on both an artistic and a societal level. Adams's portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer as a contemporary Faust character is perhaps more felicitous today than had the opera been written in 1946. While the connate drama associated with the idea of an atomic bomb is certainly obvious and embedded in the production, Adams and Peter Sellars ...

Social Distortion
Time Bomb, 2007
For fans of great rock n roll (not just punkers)
Many people categorize Social Distortion as "punk" due to Mike Ness' unique voice and the heavy use of crunchy guitar and feedback. Forget about labels, Social Distortion is one of America's last great rock bands. Influences include country, rockabilly and of course punk. A few listens to these songs will motivate you to go out and purchase their previous CDs (perhaps even Mike's solo efforts). ...

U2
Interscope Records, 2004
One of U2's best (and most criticized) albums
A lot of people don't like this album. They claim it's too focused. That, however, is exactly why it is such a great album, especially after the unfocused (but still great) music U2 made during the 90's. There aren't just a few standout songs and then some filler songs; every track is superb. Vertigo starts the album with a bang. While a little too rock'n'rolley to be considered "classic" U2, ...

Cool follow up to 'One Cell in the Sea'
Alison's voice is stunning and perfected without being polished in post production like a photo is airbrushed.. I absolutely love her lyrics and deep emotional articulation.. If you like this album, and you haven't heard the first one, be sure to get it. There are few things I would change about the album. My favorites are the hauntingly beautiful 'Swan Song' and 'Elements'... I'm SO glad ...

The Smiths
Warner Bros / Wea, 1990
God bless Morrissey, Marr, Rourke, and Joyce....
This was my first Smiths album, an embarrassment of riches. It has 24 tracks on it, and there really isn't one in the batch that reeks. In fact, can I say that they are all brilliant? Can I say that I really dig The Smiths? Yes. The Smiths were one of the best bands of the 1980's, and none of their music has dated. Whenever I listen to it, I don't think "80's Smiths", I just think it's ...

It just makes ya happy!
As a real hard-core Vince Gill Fan, I've been wanting this CD for awhile now and finally got it for Christmas. What a fabulous collection of music! The talent on this CD is incredible; it makes you want to sing along, to dance, to stop and just listen, and of course, to laugh. I can't go from one room to the other without bringing it with me to play!

"Sip the Juice, I Got Enough to Go Around"
As soon as the first song starts to play, you already know this soundtrack is a hit. With rap artists like Naughty by Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, Too Short, Salt N Peppa, EPMD, and Cypress Hill, and with New Jack Swing artists like Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall, who can go wrong with this soundtrack? There's not really one bad song that you can name on here. Every artist comes correct. ...

best punk rock album ever
I fell in love w/ Mike Ness and Social D in the 80s. They toured constantly, it seemed like they came to the Cameo Theatre in Miami Beach (and when that shut down, 1235) at least 2X a year. Best energy at those shows, everyone screaming our lungs out to songs that told our stories. If you don't get amped listening to this album, you should really stick to emo-core fluffy music, and quit ...

cheating at solitaire-mike ness
This CD really shows Mr. Ness's influences. Since I share many of them, I thoughly enjoyed this CD. It's emotional and edgy and generally kicks [...]. Dope Fiend Blues and his version of Long Black Veil really stand out. While this is different than Social D. it still has that ragged edge I like so well from them. Also try Under The Influences from Mike Ness, excellent stuff.

Social Distortion
Time Bomb, 1995
Most underated Social D. album
This album is the most consistent album by Social Distortion. It's a departure from the pure punk rock sound of Mommy's little monster as they began incorporating their roots rock influence into their music and really began to create the sound that Social D. is now famous for. Unlike somewhere between heaven and hell where the first 3 songs are all time classics and the rest feels like so-so ...

REAL STUFF
It's pretty bad when it takes a punk rocker to make a great country album. But that's exactly what happened and thank god it did. "Let the jukebox keep on playing" is one of th ebest country cover songs of all time. Keep up the good work Mike.

A great look back at old times
Have to admit of all the punk DVDs out these days this has got to be my favorite, not least because of the content of the DVD but the commentary at the end from both the directors and members of Youth Brigade and Social Distortion. I can only assume that some who have reviewed this DVD didnt watch the extra footage because for example the scene where the song 'another state of mind' was ...

the aquabats will always be top notch
It seems like no matter what these guys come up against, they still manage to put on a great live show and release awesome albums. The Fury Of The Aquabats is probably one of my favorite albums that the band has ever released. Even if these guys aren't on a major record label with tons of funding behind them, they put their heart and soul into the music... which fans can really respect! If ...

live
1 hour ago just saw Social Distortion Live in Atlanta. People yelled all the way through the concert. Whoops and yells spilling out on the street after the concert. "Live" is the best word for this band when you see them in concert. "Live" for both girls and guys. All seemed to linger after the concert. Total adrenalin. Why see the Rolling Stones live when you can see the real deal? ...
