this is a record everyone should have.
i'm a huge eno fan, and love his stuff. this record, however, is unbelievable! there are distinct atmospheres to each side that might be lost playing via cd. side one...wow. from the first time i heard the opening of "no one receiving," i was hooked. the harmony vocals are really different than what other artists were working with, and the large array of musicians all brought their "A" game. ...

A Link in the Chain of Freedom
I don't have much to add that has not already been addressed as to the music, as the album is top to bottom exceptional, except to say that, as a straight guy who was a teenager when "Hatful" and "the Smiths" (twin sides from the Atlantic) hit the record shops, I immediately responded to the incredible musicality of Marr and lyricism of Morrissey. What intrigued me most, and does so to this day, ...

One Of Todd's Best 70's Albums
During the course of the 70's Todd Rundgren had released a series of albums that contained from one to over a sidefull of wonderful classic pop music. One of his tendencies, which always led to mixed results was expirmentation with as many sounds and textures as he possibly could and often enough the results were.....mainly bits of noise.Always toying between being a pop/soul tunesmith and ...

KOCH VISION, 2005
Washington Irving would be proud
This is a wonderfully done show, that, unlike the movie "Sleepy Hollow", remains very loyal to Washington Irving's vision, when Mr Irving created and wrote the American Classic, "The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow". Well, there is a slight new twist at the end, but the Headless Horseman told me he'd have my head on a silver platter if I gave the ending away, so I am staying silent! Ichabod Crane, ...

The Saddle Club - Adventures at Pine Hollow
Excellent movie! My grandchildren love it, even the 4 yr old. I intend on buying more of the series. The story line is one of happiness and sadness, but it is done in such a way that it is beautiful. I recommend it!

Great album
With heavier music seeming stagnant as of late, Architects new album comes as a breath of fresh air. This album is nothing less than a solid 5/5. Architects seem to have settled comfortably into their niche. This album has much more flow than their previous works. Ruin was by no means a bad album, but is was simply a means to helping the band produce this near perfect cd. Hollow crown is ...

Another new Cursive style
This album is significantly different than all that have come before it. It has some excellent tracks (I like the Dorothy ones best). It does have some theme like Ugly Organ. This album talks about mid-east life using Wizard of Oz's Dorothy.

"The Heart of the Hollow, is now awake an not asleep"
This soundtrack is totally awesome! I think this is one of Danny Elfman's best since the first "Batman 1989". Sleepy Hollow is most def the best Holloween movie ever. I really enjoyed the old school monster movie setting, I've even got more great news, Danny Elfman is going to score again another great soundtrack this year. He's signed on to do the errie score for the new 2009 version of "THE ...

Great surround album.
Not into the review thing too much. I like classical, I am a broadcast engineer who appreciates high quality recordings played on a hifi system. This disk could be boring to those who listen to this on a turd stereo.

Road Music
I posted a review yesterday after reading 3 others. Now they have disappeared into the Amazon Triangle. This is a great CD. Americana, grit, honest lyrical images, back of the neck hair raising harmony vocals, and wonderful guitar tones. Plug this into your car music machine and hit the road. You'll be cross country before you know it, and smiling the entire way. Good pacing, upbeat, ...

Sweet
I've always liked A Perfect Circle. This has got to be one of the best CD's i've heard in a long time. The instrumentation is very precise and is very well done. Hearing my favorite songs through strings is one of the coolest things i've ever heard. If you don't like classical music, give it a shot anyway. I highly recommend it.

The rebirth of progressive rock
If you like ELP, Yes, King Crimson, etc., you'll love this band. They are all accomplished musicians and execute the most difficult passages with ease. You can easily tell where their inspirations came from. I highly recommend this album to any progressive rock lover. The 70's and 80's are here again as long as this band continues!

Artist comment
As one of the members of Bell Hollow, I am proud of this recording but don't feel I ought to comment personally. Here's some reviews that might elucidate what's cool about the EP: "While so many latter-day post-punk bands fall all over themselves trying to mimic the more danceable moments of a Gang of Four record, Bell Hollow chooses to embrace atmosphere and mood. The act's songs -- which ...

"Still waters run deep when you're crying"
If I had to choose just one word to describe "Doughboy Hollow", it would be "magnificent". Fortunately, I can use as many words as I please, so here they are: wonderful, sublime, magical, brilliant, extraordinary. Music fans all have their "all time favourite" lists and "desert island" albums, magazines continue to publish similar "ultimate" compilations. Well, if I had my way, this album would ...

The Smiths
Sire, 1987
Amazon.com essential recording: This 1987 collection of Smiths album tracks, B-sides, and singles (and roughly half of Hatful of Hollow) is a worthy essential Smiths due to its scope and size. Twenty-four tracks in all, it includes hits such as the irresistible and bouncy "Ask," the Smiths prototype "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now," "William, It Was Really Nothing," "Panic," and "Hand in Glove." Lesser-known tracks like the lovely, piano-driven ...

Brilliant. Beautifully done.
Brilliant. Beautifully done. Housman's Shropshire Lad has remained a mainstay of English-speaking culture for nearly a century. Certainly no one of my mother's generation and before had failed to commit "When I Was One and Twenty," or "Loveliest of Trees, the Cherry Now" or "To an Athlete Dying Young" to memory. That these poems have a context in a masterful cycle and that the cycle is so ...
Up In Chapman's Hollow
Owen "Snake" Chapman
Rounder, 2009
There used to be a sign saying "Chapman's Hollow," but it was accidentally razed when the new coal mine went in. But, sign or no sign, everybody around Canada, Kentucky knows that Chapmans have been living along this beautiful notch of mountains for more than a century and a half. And they also know that one of Appalachia's greatest old-time fiddlers still resides up that way. "Snake" Chapman's playing evokes the loneliness and crisp grandeur of ...

SECOND MOTION, 2008
Another great record from Gemma!
Here's another great record from Gemma Hayes. I've enjoyed all of her previous outings. It's criminal that neither this new one nor the stunning The Roads Don't Love You are available through a domestic label. The masses should be feeding on these spare, tender songs. Excellent organic pop with feeling. Highly recommended to fans of Stina Nordenstam, Nina Persson, and Sam Phillips.

Neglected Master
Cowell was a very influential fingure in pre-war American music; a friend of Ives, teacher of Cage and Harrison, and a generous champion of other people's music. It is sad, therefore, that so much of his music is ignored by the record companies. His avant-garde piano music is widely available, but the more tonal, more readily accessible orchestral music which he wrote after 1940 (much of it ...
