Breathing Under Water25 reviews
Anoushka Shankar, Karsh Kale

Manhattan Records, 2007

Anoushka is pure solid beauty
Being an avid fan of indian music , and owning a sitar myself. I thought Ravi shankar was the best , but he should be very proud of his daughter for in my opinon ,being the most beautiful woman in the world, not just by her presence , but especially in the music she presents , that makes her talent as beautiful as she is. I didn't know what to think when I saw this cd. I always wanted her to be ...

Miles from India (TWO CD SET)20 reviews
Gary Bartz, Ron Carter, ...

FOUR QUARTERS ENT, 2008

Sketches of Excellence
Miles Davis passed away in 1991, but his majesty has lived on through any number of reissues, boxed sets of classic sessions and the reinterpretation of his music in a variety of settings. This set - placing Miles in a World Music context - is sweeping in scoop and breathtaking in sound. The project was overseen by producer Bob Belden and co-arranged by Louiz Banks, who also performed on ...

Bride & Prejudice38 reviews
Various Artists

Casablanca, 2005

Bolly-bolly-bolly
As a fan of both Jane Austen novels and Bollywood films, I adored the film "Bride and Prejudice." The music from this film is delightful, carrying me cheerfully through rush hour traffic. The percussive nature of the music sticks in the mind long after the music stops playing. "No life, without wife... oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah..."

Cheetah Girls: One World Soundtrack11 reviews
The Cheetah Girls

Walt Disney Records, 2008

Great for what it is
This is well produced bubble gum music for young girls and it is does its job. The harmonies are good, the melodies catchy, and the lyrics-pretty harmless. I have lots of young students who really enjoy this album.

Acoustic Soul398 reviews
India.Arie

Motown, 2001

Our generation's Nina Simone.
I'm a big fan of Nina Simone's but didn't really make an effort to seek out Arie's music until I heard a clip of "I am ready for love". I was instantly sold and knew that I had to have the cd and boy, does she deliver! It's soulful, intelligent, and just plain groovy. This is a musical artist who will always deliver whether or not the results are 'pop' catchy. Enjoy!

Sex And The City: Music From the Original Motion Picture61 reviews
Original Soundtrack

New Line Records, 2008

if you love the movie, you love this
For any of you whining and moaning and nagging that it isn't like the show, get a clue. It says "From the Original Motion Picture". For anyone confusing "HBO: Home Box Office" for an ACTUAL box office, apologies, but the only "motion picture" of SATC is the one that just came out in 2008 in actual movie theatres. If you want the tv show theme song, nope, you aren't going to get it here. If ...

Voyage to India169 reviews
India Arie

Motown, 2002

She's got my attention
India Arie is an artist that is obviously overlooked by the music industry. This woman is fantastic. She works with some of the best musicians in the business and she is one herself. India has a buttery smooth voice and her message is positive for women, her lyrics are loving toward men. She is very introspective and spiritual. I will continue to purchase her work.

Anoushka Shankar

Angel Records, 2005

Melody at its best
First of all, I must say, I dont listen to Classical music like this one, but out of blue I came accross this one in Amazon and now I am in total love with it. Each and every song is very well crafted and well composed. Very deep and very relaxing. This is the very first time I have heard Anoushka Shankar, I have heard her name for a very very long time, but never thought such music would impress ...

Kirtan: The Art and Practice of Ecstatic Chant31 reviews
Jai Uttal

Sounds True, 2004

Serenity in a CD
I'm very new to Kirtan. But I stumbled onto this CD here at Amazon and just fell in love instantly with Jai's soft, tender voice. I don't even understand any of the words or know why they are sung...but I DO know is I felt instantly wrapped in a silky, fluffy cloud of serenity, joy, and sweet mesmerizing serenity. My favorite is Shri Krishna Govinda. It is a soothing lullaby-like song and ...

Live on Earth...For a Limited Time Only8 reviews
Krishna Das

Triloka Records, 2005

At his best
I owned this collection for a few years and it disappeared into someone else's life who probabaly needed it at the time. I just rebought it because I found that I was longing for it. It is addictive listening and always makes me feel like I can walk on water and make miracles happen just by inhaling the vibration. When I listen to it I tend to spend the day putting things in order, cleaning ...

The Best of Bollywood11 reviews
Various Artists

Hip-O Records, 2003

Its all about the music
Everyone knows the best thing about Bollywood is the music. This is a fun collection across time of some popular songs. I like most of the older songs the best, but there are a couple of exceptions. This is a really broad selections that soungs best with the volume turned up. Feel free to sing along (um...its probably for the best that I don't speak hindi anyway). Standout songs: Laila o laila, ...

Breath of the Heart4 reviews
Krishna Das

Triloka Records, 2005

Exceptionally beautiful
A friend introduced me to Krisha Das' music a few years ago and I loved it. I bought Live on Earth and have listened to it MANY times. I recently picked up this album and it blew me away. The chants are so beautiful, especially the first one 'Baba Hanuman'. I work on my computer all day and this is wonderful music to sooth my spirit as I get things done. Highly recommended!

Ravi Shankar, George Harrison

Angel Records, 1997

Soothing,purifying

The Essential Ravi Shankar10 reviews
Ravi Shankar

RCA, 2005

An essential introduction to a master musician
Other reviewers here have noted that, if all you want is one CD of Ravi Shankar's music, this 2-CD set ought to do the trick. It also works as a good capsule introduction to Ravi-ji and his music; Disc One is a more pure distillation of Hindustani music, where Disc Two gives the listener a sampling of his collaborations with Western artists, all of whom seem to have had a good grasp on what was ...

Three Ragas10 reviews
Ravi Shankar

Angel Records, 2000

Timeless music
Thanks to inspiration from a highly unlikely quarter--Bollywood, of all things!--my wife and I have developed a newfound love of Indian culture. I had long been familiar with Ravi Shankar thanks to his association with George Harrison and his fame as one of the world's best sitar players, but until recently, the only album of his that I had was the live Inside the Kremlin (1988). I always ...
